Black ink on edge of paper

You may try to clean the rollers using a slightly damped paper towel.

Try to re-seat the cartridges in the printer. Open the printer cover > remove the cartridges > close the printer cover > re-brick you printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in, and re-plug after 10 seconds. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and close the cover. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

If that doesn't help, the problem could be due to a clogged print cartridge nozzle. Please follow the steps below to fix print quality issues with your model:

  1. On your computer, go to Start menu.
  2. Go to Programs.
  3. Go to Lexmark 5100 Series folder.
  4. Select Lexmark Solution Center.

From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through to clean the print cartridge nozzles.

After printing the test page, try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Select this Preset name every time you print your files/documents.
Note: The 100 standard cartridges yield around 175 ISO Pages. You can also save on ink and stretch your ink investment if you use only 100XL high yield cartridges. These contain almost 3x as much ink as a standard cartridge for a small increment in price.

I would like to increase print size occasionally to enable better readability of the printed document.

In checking for information on your printer I noticed that there were new drivers released in November for Windows 7:

http://support.lexmark.com/index?segment=SUPPORT&userlocale=EN_CA&locale=en&productCode=LEXMARK_X2500&page=product&frompage=null#1

Your User Guide is available here:

Normally if wish to change the print size of a document you would change the Font Size within your word processor. The same would apply if you viewing a document on the web. For example, in Windows Explorer go to View, Select Text Size. Make your selcetion. Before printing I would choose the Print Preview selection under File to make sure it is what you want.

Trust this is helpful. :)

My printer keeps repeating old subjects, and the print is very small... new inkjets are in.. Nothing else to add... I can't get it to print from my computer... the copies are ok.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "repeating old subjects", but that sounds like a printer queue issue. Try the following, and test printing after each step.
  1. Reset the printer. (instructions here)
  2. Print a self-test report. (here)
  3. Clear the print queue (see here)
As far as the size of the print, you will need to adjust this setting in the application you are printing from...In other words, you have to change the size of the text in the original document.
If you're printing from an IE browser, check the File>page setup options and make sure your haven't checked shrink-to-fit. Otherwise, use the File>Print Preview command to monitor the size of text in the printed material. In the browser, zoom adjustment affects the printed output.
On the other hand in Word, etc, you'll need to Format the font size in the document to change the printed text to a larger size.
(The zoom level adjustment only affects your view of the document at hand).

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

How to increase the size of the print? Print is too small

Right click on web page, choose select-all. Right click again click print preview, goto top tool bar and click full view (mouse over icon), then choose Custom from the Change Print Size drop-down menu. Specify how large you would like the webpage to be printed by setting a percentage in the Custom Size text box. This will enlarge the printed size of the entire webpage, but it might result in some of the webpage being cut off on the printed document. Usually you have more than one page to print. This is one way, maybe someone else can give a better way. Good luck.

Cant make prints lighter or darker

There are two ways to do this. One is to change settings in whatever application your are using. Increase your font size or bold your font (if you're talking about a document.)

The other way is to change your printer properties. Go to your printing preferences (from your print dialog or from Start->Printers and Faxes->right click on Lexmark 5400 Series->select Printing Preferences) and increase your Print Quality.

To resolve this, try the following actions:

1. Click Start, Settings, Printers.
2. Right click the Lexmark printer icon and choose Properties.
3. Choose the Document/Quality tab and set the resolution to 600 dpi quick print/draft.

* Change the Spool Data Format to RAW. To do this:

1. Click Start, Settings, Printers.
2. Right click the Lexmark printer icon and choose Properties.
3. Select the Details tab and click Spool Settings.
4. In the Spool Settings screen, set the Spool Data Format to RAW.
5. Click OK and then Apply.
