Question about Acer Aspire Z3100 (2771498) 21.5 in. PC Desktop

1 Answer

Acer z3100 all in one. Got factory recover discs, after they load computer hangs in "starting services." How can I get past this to diagnose what looks to be hardware issues?

I've gone thru this multiple times. Not trying to save or fix previous OS. A clean install, still hangs at "starting services". actually it's hung there for a month while I dealt with other things. There's got to be a way to kick it out of this hang and see where and why it is halting. This is an all in one that a customer gave me when I couldn't fix it at his home. Now it's mine, I'd like to get it working.

The first place I would start is looking at the Hard Drive. If the Hard Drive is bad then it can cause a failed install. You can also run another reinstall. Every once and a blue moon a fresh reinstall will not install right and you have to restart.

This all-in-one will be a challenge to open up. I'm pretty sure the drive is not easily replaceable. Do you have a recommendation for a drive test program that comes with a bootup cd or dvd?

I'm wondering if I can plug in a usb drive and load the os onto that, and see if it boots from that/

One more thing. When I say hanging in "starting services" it's not locked... the animation is still working. It's almost like it's looping. Isn't there a function key sequence to grab control and bypass the services? If it was a bad hard drive... would it still be moving?

SOURCE: Acer T-180 hangs at "Verifying DMI Data"

The cause of this problems is a corrupt boot files, Settings for hard disk drive are not correct,Floppy diskette or CD in computer causing issue, Boot devices not set properly, BIOS corrupt or misc. hard disk jumper setting not set properly, Connections loose or disconnected, Bad Hard disk drive or other bad hardware.

Note: Try this first. Check the cable setting of your hard disk in the BIOS. try swithching it to IDE, SATA, RAID. save your seetings and restart your computer.

if problem still exist... Follow this steps..

Step 1: If you have a USB stick with capacity of 4Gb and up or another hard disk... try installing a fresh Operating System in the USB stick or in the extra hard disk that you have.. after you install.. boot to bios and set the Primary boot in the extra hard disk or Removable Device (USB) save your settings and restart.. your computer will start normally booting the windows in your newly installed extra hard disk or USB stick. when you are in the Desktop, now try accessing your old hard disk and copy your files.. after you backup your files to the new installed hard disk. go to step 2.

Step 2: Turn off your computer... uninstalled the newly installed hard disk or USB.. after you uninstalled the hardware.. turn on your computer and reinstall your Operating System again. if the problem still exist go to step 3.

Step 3: if the problem stil exist. i think ther is something wrong with your hard disk.. try installing the OS again in second partitioned of your hard disk.. create first partition, then second partition. then installed your OS in second partition... if the problem still exist and you cannot go to windows desktop.. maybe your hard disk drive is damaged...

Hope I Can Help

Hello ,

Use this link http://files.getdropbox.com/u/747181/FLASHCD%20ACER%20T180%20R01-B4.ISO

Thats a bootable cd image that i made containing the latest bios for your board (R01-B4) and a flash utility. This bios has been modified to include overclocking options and extra features which are not in the standard bios!

Burn this image to a cd and boot into the DOS Prompt. At the prompt type the following

awdflash.exe 61AO427.bin /py /sn /cc /r

wait for it to finish reflashing the bios , then eject the disc and restart.

SOURCE: Acer AM1100 hanging up on DMI update

Restart.
Enter BIOS SETUP.
Use "Load Factory Default Settings".
Reset the boot-order to floppy/CD/Disk0.
Save/Exit.
This will force a "full" DMI update.
Watch for the computer to spin the floppy,
and then spin the CD, looking for "boot" records.
If it does, then the DMI update has _COMPLETED_ and the "boot" process is starting.

How to recover my acer aspire desktop is hung up at services being started ?

You will need to get a factory Microsoft disc to do a format on the partition. Most likely the hard drive has a bad sector. If you use another disk to reload the operating system make sure you have your Microsoft key ready. When you finish loading it the OS knows the key doesnt match the DVD. It will prompt you to call Microsoft for authentication. As long as your key is good Microsoft will authenticate your load. This is only true for Windows Vista or later operating systems. You will get no support for XP. If you have to talk to an actual support person just tell them your hard drive went bad and you had to use another disc for your key. Which is the truth they will get you going FREE at that point.

I want to reset it

Unlike other laptops, Acer laptops integrate a computer management utility called 'Acer eRecovery Management' to create backup of hard drive data, create restore point, reinstall applications & drivers, and reset Acer laptop to factory setting.

Step 1: Before starting your Acer laptop, ensure that there is no external storage device attached to it. Now start your laptop.

Step 2: Press 'Alt + F10' when the laptop starts booting, and wait for a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

Step 3: When 'Acer eRecovery Management' window appears, select 'Restore System from factory default' and click 'Next' to continue.

Step 4: Again click 'Next' to reset your Acer laptop. This process will erase all data from your hard disk and reset your Acer laptop to original factory settings.

Step 5: Click 'OK' in the notification window to begin the the resetting operation. Now wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Tips: You can also create a backup copy of your laptop data before factory reset. Simply click 'Backup' in 'Acer eRecovery Management' window.

I have an Acer Aspire 5720, ive had it for a year now and it is starting to slow down. I have lost the booklet to it and i need to do a master reset on it. Ive already backed everything up im just finding...

This was taken straight out of the manual for your model, which can be found here.

Acer eRecovery Management
Acer eRecovery Management is a tool to quickly backup and restore the system.
You can create and save a backup of the current system configuration to hard
disk, CD or DVD. You can also backup/restore the factory default image, and
reinstall applications and drivers.

Acer eRecovery Management consists of the following functions:

1 Create backup
2 Burn backup disc
3 Restore and recovery

This chapter will guide you through each process.
Note: This feature is only available on certain models. For systems
that do not have a built-in optical disc burner, plug in an external
optical disc burner before entering Acer eRecovery Management
for optical disc-related tasks.

When using Acer eRecovery Management, you may be prompted to enter the
Empowering Technology password to proceed. The Empowering Technology
password is set using the Empowering Technology toolbar or when first running
Acer eLock Management or Acer eRecovery Management.

Create backup

You can easily create full and fast (incremental) backup images of your system
configuration to hard disk from the main Acer eRecovery Management screen.
Note: Fast (incremental) Backup is only available after a Full
Backup is made.

1 Press <Alt> + <F10> or select Acer eRecovery Management from the
Empowering Technology toolbar to start Acer eRecovery Management.
2 In the Acer eRecovery Management window, select the type of backup you
want to create using Full or Fast.
3 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

English
Burn backup disc
Using the Burn Disc page of Acer eRecovery Management, you can burn the
factory default image, a user backup image, the current system configuration,
or an application backup image to CD or DVD.
1 Press <Alt> + <F10> or select Acer eRecovery Management from the
Empowering Technology toolbar to start Acer eRecovery Management.
2 Switch to the Burn Disc page by selecting the Burn Disc button.
3 Select the type of backup (factory default, user, current system,
application) you would like to burn to disc. Choosing to burn a user backup
will burn your most recently created backup image to disc.
4 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.
Note: Create a factory default image when you want to burn a
bootable disc that contains your computer's entire operating
system as it was delivered to you from the factory. If you wish to
have a disc that will allow you to browse the contents and install
selected drivers and applications, create an application backup
image instead — this disc will not be bootable.

Restore and recovery

The restore and recovery features allow you to restore or recover the system
from a factory default image, from a user created image, or from previously
created CD and DVD backups. You can also reinstall applications and drivers for
your Acer system.
1 Press <Alt> + <F10> or select Acer eRecovery Management from the
Empowering Technology toolbar to start Acer eRecovery Management.
2 Switch to the restore and recovery page by selecting the Restore button.
3 Select the backup point you would like to restore from. You can also
choose to recover the system from a factory default image, recover from a
previously created CD/DVD or reinstall applications and drivers.
4 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

Acer aspire not loading to windows

Hi,

If you have recovery disc or back up disc put it in and restart the PC and start tapping the F12 key until at the Acer splash screen, you should get now see your boot order, now use your up and down cursor key to highlight the CD/DVD drive and then press enter, this will now start the recovery disc that you put in, just follow the on-screen instructions.

If you don't have a disc, restart the PC and at the Acer splash screen start tapping the ALT+F10 or just F10 and if you have a recovery partition on your hardrive then the recovery program will start up, just follow the on-screen instructions.

Thanks

Creating recovery discs After setting up the computer for the first time, be sure to create a set of recovery discs of the full factory image. the recovery discs are used to start up (boot) the computer and recover the operating system and software to factory settings in case of system instability or failure.

Try go to bios setup and then "load bios setup default" then press "F10" to save and exit.

if this no work.

You should provide the system recovery installation disc and insert it to the CD/DVD rom then start recover your system.

Note: important files will be removed when doing this, so if you can back up your files do that.
