Video output to hdmi cuts out after bootup

Your HDMI cable maybe not compatible with high resolution, there are normal and high speed HDMI cables, all can display low resolution boot images but only high speed ones can display Windows higher resolutions and being identified correctly by Windows. Try a certified high speed, version 1.3b or higher cable from a well known TV manufacturer, but since these are quite expensive before buying it borrow one to a friend or try to do this:Wait for Windows to load and hold Windows key pressed while you press and release P key 4 times* and then release Windows key. Press enter to confirm the new settings.
This should change output to second display, then you can configure display settings through the control panel, navigate to screen resolution and you will see a preview of the desktop on all enabled displays, click detect button and VGA monitor should dissapear from preview and make HDMI to be used as the first display. Shutdown and turn on again to see if Windows keep the settings correctly, if not you may need to ask your graphics card manufacturer if there is an option or utility to force HDMI always on.

* Press and hold Windows key, then iIf you press P key 1 time activates first display, 2 times duplicates the image on both displays, 3 times extends desktop to second display and 4 times enables only secondary display, finally release Windows key and press Enter to confirm.

I have dell latitude E6400, I am unable to toggle between external display(projector/monitor) and laptop display. As in laptop manual, i have tried using function keys (fn+f8).

@praskumar79

Things to check:

1. Is your display automatically transfer to the projetor right away when you plug the VGA/HDMI cable to the computer? If not, and Fn+F8 doesn't do anything, try to press the Windows Key+P (the windows key looks like this ray_tosh_1.jpg ). This will allow you to switch between displays. (see image below).

ray_tosh_10.png

2. If you choose one of the display mode above and it still won't clone/extend the image on your computer to the projector, try to use a different cable. If still no go, try to re-install the display driver and see if that fixes it. If same issue, there might be a problem with your VGA/HDMI/Display port and needs to be serviced.

Good luck

I have a problem about my laptop if i turn it on my screen are still blank but my laptop is still working.. can i ask if what is the problem about my laptop. pls help me... tnx!

Although your Toshiba portable computer appears to be on and running, there is no image on the built-in LCD display screen Look closely at the LCD display screen. If you can see a faint image on the screen, the display screen's fluorescent backlight may be turned off. Shining a flashlight directly at the screen will make it much easier to see whether or not there is a screen image actually present, though not lit up. On most Toshiba portable computers, there is a small plastic or metal pin near one of the LCD display lid hinges. When the display lid is shut (closed), this pin is pressed against an internal switch which turns off the backlight, saving battery power. You may be able to turn the backlight on again by tapping this pin repeatedly. The normal screen image will then suddenly appear, or re-appear.If there appears to be no display image at all, the problem is probably not related to the backlight. In this case, press and hold the Fn key and then press the F5 key several times, pausing several seconds between each keypress. This will cycle through several display output modes: Internal, External, Simultaneous, and possibly one or two more.If no image appears on the LCD display after cycling through the Fn-F5 sequence, try doing so with an external CRT monitor attached, if possible. If you still see no image, on either screen, try restarting the computer with the CRT monitor connected. If you see a screen image that looks normal when the computer is first powered on, or when you try to enter the BIOS Setup during the power-on sequence, it's an indication of a software problem (a driver or an application that's launched while the computer is loading Windows, possibly). Try downloading the display drivers for the computer from the Toshiba Support website, and then re-installing them.If the LCD screen or an external CRT monitor is blank only while the computer is first powered-on, but then works fine, it's probably not an indication of a problem. Some models display no text or images during the startup process. Additionally, installing some Windows Updates may delay the appearance of the familiar Windows desktop. If there are blank margins bordering the image on the LCD screen, launch the Windows Control Panel, then double-click the Display icon. Click the Settings tab, and then adjust the Screen Resolution setting until image fills the entire LCD screen, which will cause the margins to disappear. If the font size on an external CRT monitor seems too small for comfortable viewing, try clicking the Advanced button on the Settings page, and then adjust the DPI (dots per inch) value. Try 120DPI and 135DIP, to begin with. Avoid changing the DPI to much greater values, in order to avoid settings that will be difficult to change.
  1. Hold down the power button for approximately 10 seconds until the computer turns off.

  2. Verify that neither one of these keys are stuck in the down position:

the Tab key (arrows pointing left and right)

the tilde key ( ~ and ` characters)

  3. Turn the computer on.

  4. If either of the keys above appears to be stuck in the down position, and if the issue is not corrected by pressing these keys repeatedly, then service is required.

Camera giving invertd image.

The camera displays an inverted image on the LCD camera screen or when you view the image on windows vista? If it is Vista what program are you using to view the image? If it is the camera check the settings on the camera for the special effects settings and see if the image inversion setting is on. Ther could also be a problem with the LCD display on the camera.

Why does my display image not show to anyone in the I.M. window, but I can see it?

Hi,

This is what you can do, click on the chat box for a particular contact on your IM list. Just click on the arrow below your display image. A drop down menu would appear, left click on "Share my Picture". Once this is done that particular contact would be able to see your display image. You can repeat this for all the contacts on your IM list, this is a simple way to make your image shown to your contacts.

Regards

My laptop screen can't display.

If you see a very dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
