Scroll down a little. Stop at Motherboard - M2N78-LA (Violet)

1) Motherboard Size: 9.6 Inches X 9.6 Inches
(24.4cm X 24.4cm)

This means the Form Factor is Micro-ATX,

2) Processor Socket: AM2+

3) Motherboard Chipset:

Since you have an AMD Phenom X4 9650 processor, make sure the new motherboard will support it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Phenom_microprocessors#.22Agena.22_.28B2.2FB3.2C_65_nm.2C_Quad-core.29

Make sure the new motherboard will support DDR2 Sdram ram memory, at 800MegaHertz. (800MHz)
That is PC2-6400

Up to 16GB of ram memory. Specs state you have 8GB installed now. (Product Specifications)
If you are running XP, Vista, or Win 7 that is 32-bit, you will ONLY see about 3.0Gb to 3.5GB.

You need a 64-bit Operating System for more than 4.0GB of ram memory.

Motherboard getting a 'little light in the rear-end'?
Check the Electrolytic Capacitors on the motherboard.

No. Not the Solid Polymer Capacitors. (Cylindrical small 'cans', with a Red mark on one side)

The Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors,

Yes, bad caps can be replaced. All you need is basic soldering skills.
Why do they go bad, and what makes me think other components aren't ready to go bad too?

HP Pegatron M2N78-LA having trouble finding a replacement for my motherboard with the same part number, would i be able to put a HP Pegatron M2N78-LA with a different part number into my machine

Before you give up check on ebay. If you do replace just make sure that the physical size is the same and that the replacement uses the same cpu and memory you have now. Otherwise you will be spending much more dinero.

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions, DE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs all electrical power and data to travel through every working device its and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
make sure your ram and cmos battery are securely seated with no dust in sockets
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press delete to enter setup
Press and hold delete during the boot up process to enter BIOS

hope this will help

Restart your computer with the XP Setup disk in the CDROM drive.
If you are prompted to press a key to start the computer from CDROM, do so quickly. Otherwise it may try to boot from the hard drive. After a few minutes, you'll see a prompt to press the R key to start the Recovery Console. When Recovery Console starts, it will prompt you to enter a number corresponding to the Windows XP installation that you need to repair. In most cases, you'll enter "1" (which will be the only choice). If you press ENTER without typing a number, Recovery Console will quit and restart your computer. Enter your Administrator password. If you don't enter the correct password, you cannot continue. At the Recovery Console command prompt, type fixmbr and then verify that you want to proceed. Your damaged MBR will be replaced with a shiny new one, and you should then be able to boot your system normally. In some cases, you may need to repair the boot sector in addition to the MBR. If your system still doesn't boot properly, repeat the steps above, but issue the fixboot command instead
