Question about IBM ThinkVision L170 17" LCD Monitor
Light stays green - display is good for about 1 second then black. Rebooting/ shutting off power doesn't help. Swapped out the monitor and the other one works fine (same cables - no config changes). Any ideas?
This seems to be a common problem with these monitors. Have a look very closely and see if you can still see something there. From there, either send it to get repaired, or, if you are handy with a soldering iron, open it up and replace the 4 main capacitors (at least one of them will be "popped", but it is handy to replace them all.
In order to open the monitor, you will need to remove the stand, and make sure you get all of the screws out before attacking it with a screwdriver.
I have 5 IBM monitors at work with the same problem, and opening them up has shown the popped capacitors.
Again, only recommended if you know what you are doing. Screwing it up will leave you with nothing.
