Pixelization on the screen.

Initially on the home menu screen there are a few vertical black lines that flash in and out, then once i load a game, some of the screens will be totally distorted with pixelization. It's still playable but it's really f-ing annoying. Any ideas??

Sounds like the graphics chip is fried. If wii connect 24 is left on, the console heats up whilst its in standby due to the fan switching off. This in turn frys the graphics chip causing those black lines. Contact nintendo and see if they will fix/replace it for you.

I bought a wii sometime near launch and ive had no problems. make sure all the cords are plugged in all the way.also if you have another game system try it and see if it does the same thing.if not your wii might be messed up.

Flashing black and white vertical lines

Vertical lines in the display indicate a failing screen. New screens are expensive and not worth the labor and parts charges to repair it. It's new monitor time.

Wii black screen

The following fix should help users who do have problems with some virtual console games for the Nintendo Wii that display only a black screen after starting them while the sound remains normal. This does not work in all occasions but should work if you get the Wii menu when you press Home and works only for games that received an update for the interlaced mode.
Try out the following to see if this fixes the issue. Start the game normally until you see the black screen. Connect the Nunchuck to the Wiimote and press Home to see the menu options. Now press A + 2 + Z together which should result in a short “ping-like” sound.
This should have activated the interlaced mode. Leave the menu and you should see the normal game screen and not the black screen anymore. To change the mode again press A + 1 + Z using the same method as above
