Question about Panasonic TH-42PX500U 42 in. Plasma Television

9 Answers

After following the reset procedure the set is unresponsive

I followed the reset procedure on page 34 of the owners manual. At some point in the process the video went snowy and the on/off switch is the only thing that works on the TV.
I have tried turning off and on as well as unplugging the unit. At this point the TV is useless.

I tried unplugging the unit for 15-20 minutes. No change.

I don't believe that the channel was changed.

  • mikec905 Jan 25, 2009

I now have a signal from the satellite receiver, however, none of the controls work, i.e. volume control, menu, channel, video input, etc do not work.

  • mikec905 Jan 25, 2009

Satellite receiver is connected thru antenna/cable connection.

  • mikec905 Jan 26, 2009

Unresponsive using either the remote or the TV controls.

One of th experts asked if the picture was snowy when connected to DVD. The problem is that I have no control over the inputs and cannot select anything. Therefore I cannot provide an answer to this question.

Unit being not responsive has got nothing to do with the no signal problem.

You have an additional problem with the remote, try replacing remote batteries with new ones.

If you are using a programmable remote, remote may need re-programming after TV reset.

You may have gone into factory or service mode. See if the manual says anything about either one, You may have to hold down a certain button for a while like the menu button to unlock it and get into a special menu.

Are you trying to control using remote or on the TV set?
If its the remote, their might be problem with the remote or the remote-TV communication.
If the picture is snowy, is it snowy with any DVD/ Video CD you play?

Heat is the enemy of electronics, and these sets operate hot. You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solderconnections. This model of TV has over 3,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Integrated circuits and transistors can go bad. This can cause other components to become defective, which can have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The only way to know for sure what is causing the problem, which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.
thnx.

My research into your set and its TV Guide feature brought up two points that may be relevant:

  1. It apparently takes about 24 hours for the guide to load up completely. This would make it difficult to get real-time info as to whether it was working or not.
  2. 'TV Guide' may not work will all providers, and may not work as providers switch to digital. Have you spoken to your provider about possible compatibility?

I hope that helps

Locate reset button on insignia ns-ltdvd 19-09, and the reset procedure to follow.

There is not an external reset button on this TV. To reset to factory defaults, enter the onscreen menu system and highlight the OPTION icon using the arrow keys. On the resulting screen, select "Restore Default." I would also recommend power-cycling (turn the TV off and unplug for several minutes) as part of your reset procedure. Additional details can be found in the owner's manual.
