Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook
The compatibilty test doesn't check the drive operating parameters that SMART monitoring does. It's just verifying that the drive will work with the BIOS. SMART checks various drive paramaters while the drive is in use and warns you when something is enough out of tolerance that it may be heading for a failure. Best you back up your data like it says. Even if it's a false alarm, backing up is a good idea anyway.

SMART is used to measure your HDD health. It warns you of impending failure of your hard drive. If it goes down, it's a good idea to backup important stuff and prepare to replace the HDD.
S.M.A.R.T is an acronym for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology systems (SMART) and it's usually built in to most modern ATA and SCSI hard disks.
