I CANT DOWNLOAD THE PHOTOS ON MY PC!

Hi, I have Windows 2000 and Im trying to download pictures to my PC for the first time...I have installed the software but when i connect the camera to the pc (yes its in playmode) and when it connects an Event box comes up and says to choose which application to download images. It gives me "Canon Camerawindow", EOS Utilities, Imaging, Lexmark photo, and I think Ulead. My manual says to choose Canon CameraWindow...but when i do, i just get an hourglass by my cursor and nothing ever happens...i have even waited hours. I cant figure out any other way to download my images!! :( i have uninstalled the software and reinstalled , I have tried everything!!

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Cant get camera to download photos on computer

With all digital cameras the maker delivers a CD (DVD) with software to install on your computer. This makes it possible to put the pictures from the camera on any computer. On the disk(s) are drivers for all operating systems that need them. (Windows 7 and up do have all drivers for hardware that is certified by Microsoft) And there are programs to download the pictures from the camera to the PC. Sometimes the manufactures also delivers software to organise the pictures in folders and software to view or even enhance the pictures you shot.
When you lost the disk, most of the time you can get the software on the website for your brand. Sometimes you even get newer, updated software and new drivers if needed.
If you can't get software form your brand, you always can install other generic software like Ulead, Pixir, BeFunkey, Gimp, Photoshop express. Or if that is not possible you could install an external memory card reader and download the pictures via de memory card reader.

I have a windows 7, but i lost my cd for the DSC100 cant read my pictures what do i do? thanks

According to the user manual, there were only drivers to support Windows 2000 and Windows XP any way, so no great loss.

The camera is probably supported by default in Windows 7.

To find out if this is the case, you should try using Picasa to download the pictures off of your camera.

Picasa is a free download from Google and has many cutting-edge features for picture management. I think that you'll like it.

  • Download Picasa from their web site (click here) to your Desktop
  • Once the Picasa file has completed downloading, Open the file and follow the directions displayed.
  • Once you have Picasa installed, connect your Olympus camera. Picasa will recognize that you have connected the camera and ask you how you want to proceed.
  • Have Picasa copy the images from your camera
  • You can then use Picasa to handle the photos from your camera.

Same problem - no driver

I found this on another site. You have to set the camera itself to Mass Storage mode in order to work with Windows 2000. The steps are below. As soon as I did and plugged the camera back into the USB cable, Picture Project recognized the camera as connected, installed the mass storage driver for it and requested a restart of the PC. Able to access the memory card and download pictures.

On the camera itself, unplug the USB, turn it on and...

Press MENU....
Press ▲▼to choose SETUP...press OK...
Press ▲▼to choose INTERFACE...press OK...
Press ▲▼ to choose USB...press OK...
Press ▲▼to choose MASS STORAGE...press Ok..
Press MENU to exit...
Then plug it back into the USB cable.

Good Luck
