A lot of you have helped diagnose this, and I thank you.

But, I tried the squeeze remedy, didn't work, so I went so far as disassembling the phone, by removing the rubber plugs which seal the Torx screws, removing the Front Flip Housing, and un-seating the Flex connector, then re-seating it. Putting the battery back in to check function, the phone showed the same symptoms as before (buttons light up, but screen does not display).

I then removed the battery, repeated unseating, then re-seating the flex connector. Re-assembled phone (this is where I think why the phone wouldn't start-up: there is a piece of metal which sits between the front flip housing and the interior chassis - I think that was/is a means for grounding the device - just a theory though).

Never the less, reassmbled the phone, replaced the battery, and it worked. The battery was dead as a door nail, but it tried to boot. Removed the battery again, re-inserted the battery, then plugged it into the charger, now it's charging. Woohoo!

Technical Note: while the phone appears to be fixed for the time being, the flex cable (this type of cable is made out of a material called Kapton, just so you know) appears to be separating from itself inside the hinge. Looks like the thin substrate layers are de-laminating. I was thinking this was part of the problem. Doesn't look like it will be too much of an issue to replace that flex assembly. While I have the tools to do this type of work, you can do this same thing with a small flat head screw driver (eyeglass screwdriver), and a pair of tweezers.

The Phone needs a new Keypad flex and most likely a left hinge pin. When the phone is open, the cable runs through the left side of the hinge. It is very common for the hinge pin to become chipped and put a small cut in the Flex Cable.

It is very extensive for me to post the step by step instructions on here, but you can email me at [email protected] if you like and I will send them. Also, you should be able to find the instructions on line such as youtube or such.

You can get the parts on ebay. search for motorola v3 keypad flex, and motorola v3 hinge, or knuckle.

Or you can contact me through www.wirelessunlimitedinc.com or www.myspace.com/wirelessunlimited if you want us to repair it for you.

When I dropped my razr and both screens went dead, I tapped it on the hinge, as inspired by this solution and it came back to life.

When i turn my phone on the keyboard lights up makes that boot up sound but display screen does not turn on.

maybe your LCD has a problem or the flexi-wire have the problem, if turn on the unit then try to call someone, if there is a rely it means that the screen has a problem. so it may be the LCD or the flexi-wire connecting the LCD.
