Question about Samsung Digimax V800 Digital Camera

1 Answer

POWER DRAIN LITHIUM BATTERY DEAD AFTER 3.5 HOURS WITHOUT TURNING ON CAMERA. MUST REMOVE BATTERY FROM CAMERA WHEN NOT USING IT OR BATTERY WILL BE RUN DOWN AND CAMERA WILL NOT TURN ON. THIS IS NOT THE WAY CAMERA PREFORMED WHEN NEW. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I PURCHASED THE CAMERA IN APRIL OF 2006. I HAVE A 3 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE CAMERA THROUGH www.myrepairtech.com. I HAVE RETURNED THE CAMERA TO THEM TWO TIMES FOR THE ABOVE PROBLEM. THEY SENT THE CAMERA BOTH TIMES TO A CAMERA REPAIR SERVICE CALLED PRECISION CAMERA REPAIR IN NEW HAMPSHIRE. THE CAMERA REPAIR SERVICE HAS SENT THE CAMERA BACK TO ME WITH DOCUMENTS STATING THAT THE CAMERA WAS CHECKED FOR CALIBRATION AND HAS PASSED SAMSUNGS OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS. I DO NOT THINK THEY UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM OR ARE NOT ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY PROBLEM IS THAT SOMETHING IN THE CAMERA ELECTRONICS IS DRAINING THE BATTERY SLOWLY. IT IS NOT A DIRECT SHORT BUT IS STILL SOME KIND OF LOW LOAD IMPEDANCE ON THE BATTERY WITH THE CAMERA TURNED OFF. I DID SOME EXPERMENTS AND FOUND THAT THE BATTERY WAS QUITE WARM AFTER 3.5 TO 4.0 HOURS WHEN FIRST INSTALLED AFTER FULLY CHARGED. BATTERY WAS DISCHARGED ENOUGH TO NOT ALLOW CAMERA TO POWER UP. THIS IS A PROBLEM WHEN TRAVELING EVEN IF HAVING A SPARE BATTERY HANDY. I HAVE NEED OF A DIFFERENT REPAIR CENTER THAN THE ONE ABOVE, HOPEFULLY IN THE LOS ANGELES-ORANGE COUNTY-SAN DIEGO,CA AREA WHERE I CAN GO AND DEMONSTRATE THE PROBLEM TO A REAL LIVE PERSON.

You said it 'Not able to fix the problem' Extended warranty that send stuff away to third party repairers are a waste of time. That is because there is nothing to repair or parts to repair with. Go to Samsung Tech Support- tell them the tale they will either repair it free - or offer you a replacement for a low price.

Well good luck with your search.
Camera circuit boards are made by machine in one piece just like any other piece if computer type electronics- Unless you have eyes like an eagle and fingers like needles and know which bit to swap -I don't holdout much for your chances.
Just go buy the next camera

PS don't type in capitals it is seen a shouting
and I do not need to be shouted at.
I may be old and going deaf but am not blind -yet.
    OK?

The battery drains far too quickly on my Samsung G600 (have tried new batteries but same problem). Any idea what is causing the power drain?

In many instances, some phones run a lot of applications in the background unfortunately, in most cases of a fast battery drain, it is due to high screen brightness or a long screen time-out. Try turning down your screen brightness to a lower setting (one which you can still see without straining) and check to see how long your screen turns off. Some phones default to 30 secs or 1 minute. Use a lower setting if possible.

Also, cell phone batteries are lithium batteries. At first use and then on a periodic basis, try draining the battery until the phone will no longer turn on and only then plug your charger in. If you plug the charger in before it is dead the battery will not be used to its fullest capacity. Hope this helps!

  1. Verify that the lens cap is not covering the camera lens.
  2. If operating the camera with a battery, ensure the battery is fully charged.
  3. If operating the camera with the power adapter, ensure it is plugged into a working AC outlet.
  4. Verify that the LCD screen is turned on.
  5. Adjust the LCD brightness control.
  6. Change the shutter speed or aperture settings.
  7. If the issue is not resolved, try resetting the camera.

Using an Initialize option in the menu

Since Cyber-shot cameras have different menu system layouts, refer to the instruction manual specific for your camera model.

Using a RESET button

  1. Locate the RESET button on the camera.
  2. Use a pointed object (like a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the RESET button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. After 2-3 seconds has elapsed, release the RESET button.

Performing a manual power reset

  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove the battery pack.
  3. Remove the button-sized lithium battery.
  4. Allow the camera to remain without power for 30 seconds.
  5. Reinsert the button-sized lithium battery.
  6. Reinsert the battery pack.
  7. Turn on the camera.

Smart set clock dead ?

Sorry it took so long to reply to your problem. You must try to reset the Clock/Radio's microprocessor. To do this you must disconnect the Clock/Radio from the A/C power source and remove the internal battery. Let the Clock/Radio set without any power source for about 3 hours. This should completely drain all the power from the microprocessor. After this is done, reinsert the internal battery and plug the Clock/Radio into the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio's functions should return to normal. If they do not return to normal. Unplug the Clock/Radio from the A/C power source and remove the internal battery. Replace the internal Battery (CR2430). Let the Clock/Radio again drain all the power from the microprocessor. Insert the new battery and Plug the Clock/Radio into the A/C power source. The Clock/Radio's functions should return to normal. If you should still be having problem with the functions of the Clock/Radio, you will need to call Emerson Customer Support. The telephone number for Emerson Customer Support is 1-800-909-1240. Call them between the hours of 8am-4:30pm CT. S2 pro electronic malfunction?!?!

If your lithium batteries are depleted, having them in the camera will shut it down. A common cause of depleting the lithium batteries is leaving them in the camera while using the AC power adapter. For some odd reason, the Fuji engineers did not build in a disconnect circuit when on AC power. You should always remove the lithium batteries when using the AC adapter.

The Fuji S2 will run fine without the lithium batteries, except that you will not be able to use the built-in flash. Fuji recommends that as an "emergency" procedure, but I ran my S2 off NiMH AAs only for my heavy use over four years with no adverse effects.

If you buy the MB-16 battery pack or one of the modified versions for the S2, you would be able to use 8 AA batteries to power the camera, including the built-in flash, and never touch another lithium battery. The MB-16 itself does require some modification in filing off edges around the base and building up material around the post to firmly engage the switch you found.
