I have a dell 9300 that had vertical lines.
I wrote to Dell and said my wife, my sister, my daughter and myself had trouble with the laptop screens. They did not reply but sent me a box with return mailing instructions. Without a word either way, my laptop was fixed. There is no question in my mind there are shorting problems under the case. On three of my dell laptops I need to use a cord to plug in. THE BATTERIES have some sort of connection problem. If I touch the bottom part of the case(while entering data, it oftentimes moves the mouse or the mouse starts dancing. I have to work without the battery. I read where some fellow opened the case gently and inserted a hard piece of thin clear plastic to separate the case somewhat from the guts, so to speak. That may be some help. All of my laptops are kept open now while I can. It seems the back where the lid goes down is fragile. On two of my laptops, the usb ports moves about like a broken arm.The internal architecture is great on a dell. They might use tin cans to make the outside. I wish they would use a solid plastic.

If you can try a docking station that might help. I do not think you can do anything else other than see if there is an open line from where your batter plugs in up to the motherboard.

Switch off power completely , remove the battery and re-insert the battery completely locking it into its place and then connect the Eliminator - if the status light is steady and indicates its charging your problem is resolved else change the battery.

If your laptop computer runs normally on your acer 5810t charger, but the battery won't charge, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

1) Remove the battery from the system.

2) Look at the connectors in the bay and on the battery for signs of physical damage.

3) Check the battery charge by pressing the status button or image on the battery near the LED's. Note: The lights indicate the current amount of charge on the battery. My dell inspiron 6400 won't start, red light then green light flashes ansd nothing happens, try to take out the battery and putting it back, no results, help

The following troubleshooting guidelines are basic troubleshooting steps. Battery Charging It is recommended to charge the battery while the system is off for faster charge times. Users may notice longer charge times when the system is powered on and running graphics extensive applications.
No POST If the system does not perform a Power On Self Test, there are various things to look for:
  1. Check to ensure that the system has a power light.
  2. If the system has no power light, ensure that it is plugged into AC power. Remove the battery.
  3. If the system has power but is not performing a POST, check to see if the keyboard status lights flash to indicate a successful POST, but no video, or that the keyboard status lights are lit in a sequence indicating a system problem.
bios_leds-1.jpg
  1. With the power off and the system unplugged, remove all CRUs from the system and reconnect that AC adapter to the system and try again.
  2. Run the On Board Diagnostics (OBD).
Video If the LCD on the system shows no display, or has other LCD problems, there are some basic steps to take:
  1. If the LCD is not displaying video or the video is garbled, run the BIST Test.
  2. If the LCD is not displaying any video, connect an external monitor to eliminate a no POST problem. A good image on the external monitor eliminates a video card problem or a POST problem.
  3. Connect an external monitor when possible for all LCD related problems, to help eliminate a software possibility or video card problem.
  4. If the LCD has extremely dim video, attempt to adjust the brightness or connect an AC adapter to eliminate a power management conservation setting set in the BIOS.
  5. If the LCD has lines on the screen, check the system during POST as well as system setup to verify if the lines are present in all modes of operation. Run the BIST Utility.
  6. If the LCD has color problems, run the BIST Utility.
  7. Run the On Board Diagnostics (OBD).

How. do you check if battery is okay.Is there a

the laptop battery is charged with an advance system to regulate the batterry life. To check your battery for optimum performance it is important to charge the battery at least once a week after the charge had gone down to less than 10 %. this will not allow the cells to develop reverse polarity making it drop in efficiency.
Now in the control panel you can open up the icon Power, you will find the status of the battery orr if charging the status of the charging. the icon can be alos found on the lower instant toolbar. the percentage of the charge on battery or charging percentage will be indicated when you place the cursor near to it. make sure that you fully charge the battery always and not to mid charge or run it too low all the time.the time you get for the battery to power your laptop will determine the efficiency of the battery.By these methods you will get good performance of your laptop battery. Helpful advice? good day

Plug in not charging

There are several factors why this situation happens. It could be improper use of the power adapter or because the battery is not being cared correctly. On the other hand, exercising the performance of battery sometimes by draining it completely before charging it again is a good method of prolonging the battery life. If you noticed that the battery is not charging, always check first the power outlet if it is live or not before doing serious investigation. If the wall socket is not the cause of laptop battery charging failure, the following troubleshooting tips might help you.
1. Check if the AC adapter is bad or not. Detach the battery from the laptop and turn on the computer with the power plug connected. If the laptop does not turn on, try using another power adapter to verify if the first one is defective. If the second trial does not work as well, the problem might be the power circuit of the motherboard. Look for a certified computer technician to help you solve the issue.
2. If the computer does turn on, the power adapter is in good condition and not the cause the problem. In this case, try placing another battery that meets the technical specifications of the laptop for proper testing. If the second battery works well, it can be concluded that the first one is defective.
3. Determine if the problem is not caused by a software related issue. If the notebook battery status is not being displayed correctly though software, it can be considered that the software is causing the problem and not really the battery.
4. Power reset the unit by unplugging it and removing the battery. After doing that, hold the power button down for a minute. Then, attach the battery and power adapter, and start the laptop again. This method is being done to ensure that the motherboard is not holding power anymore when the battery went down causing a "hiccup" in the system. This may solve the charging failure of the battery.
5. If the battery stops charging every time the charge indicator reaches 96-98%, the laptop may need to be recalibrated for a new battery. For proper notebook recalibration, the Windows power management should be configured to prevent the system from going into sleep mode or hibernation when the battery reaches the low level. For Windows XP users, navigate to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options. Set "Power Schemes" to "Always On". Under "Alarms", uncheck "Low battery alarm" and "Critical battery alarm". Under "Hibernate", uncheck "Enable hibernation", and then click on Apply. Doing this procedure, the laptop battery can now be drained fully until the computer system shuts off. Then, put the adapter back into the power jack and let it charge completely. Sometimes the cycle must be repeated 2-3 times before it actually reaches the 100% full charge. The charging process should last at least around 14 hours.

Dell Latitude D800 Wont Power Up

Check the status of the battery directly from the battery. Turn the laptop over and on the batter is an battery indicator button and lights to tell you if it's charged. If it is charged then you have an problem internally. Wiggle the tip of the power cord at the laptop connection to see if it is loose, if it is then you have an loose connection on the motherboard which can be fixed by an experienced tech that can solder or the motherboard will need to be replaced.

Battery is not charging properly ....?

Have you checked the bios battery status and bios version? first check if battery has charge if yes then update the bios. also try to remove batt and use ac adapter alone and check if laptop has sufficient power. try connecting ac adapter to a diff wall socket. if laptop works fine with ac adapter alone then batt might has problem.

Battery not charging...but is recognized by V2000

My guess since the battery checked fine in another laptop would indeed be the charging board or charging circuit on the motherboard.
