Viking/Husqvarna 5710 sewing machine is stuck in reverse. Reverse button isn't stuck, but doesn't pop out by itself anymore. Stitch dial isn't in between stitches. Put wd40 in the insides, didn't help

Uh-oh. Don't use WD-40 on your machine... WD-40 becomes sticky with time and will seize the mechanics...

Wondering if there is a spring under the R button that perhaps is broken or collapsed.

Hi I am wanting to do a 4cm buttonhole on my Elna Elina 40. The automatic button hole only goes up to 2.5 cm. How do I do a button hole as long as 4 cm please.

Just stitch the buttonhole without the automatic buttonholer. That's how we do it with machines that don't have the buttonhole function. Buttonholes can be done on any sewing machine that has zig-zag capability. A left/right needle position would be helpful, but if that is not available, just be sure to sink the needle into the fabric BEFORE changing the zig-zag width.

I have an Elna Elina 40 and bobbin thread on the top when sewing. I have fixed thread tension up top and then when nothing changed I adjusted bobbin tension and nothing changes. Please help!

Please explain more fully the symptoms your machine is displaying and what you are attempting to do when making adjustments.
===============

If the bobbin thread is showing on top of the fabric, the upper thread is too tight and/or the bobbin tension is too loose.

Set the upper tension to the midway point between high & low number, then retest your machine. If the bobbin thread is still showing on top, then the bobbin tension is a bit too loose.

FWIW, it is normal when using 2 different color threads that you can see a "dot" of the other thread from the opposite side (especially with thin, fine fabric). If you try tightening both tensions to get rid of the "dot," the fabric will probably begin to pucker. If you are seeing a dot of each thread on the opposite side, your tension is perfect! Try stitching thicker fabric and see if the dots disappear. When sewing, it is best to use the same color thread for top and bottom or use a thread color that closely matches the fabric. Then the dots blend in and are not as noticeable.

I would like to know what stitch number to put my sewing machine onto to stitch stretch material. I have a Elna 40 sewing machine regards Judy

Looks like stitch #06 might be a stretch stitch. You could probably also use a slight 08 or 09 zig-zag. Unless you are sewing something really stretchy (lycra) IMHO, a slight zig-zag is fine and actually is a lot faster than a stretch stitch which takes a few stitches forward and then one or two stitches in reverse. The stitch #09 is something that I use frequently for stretch fabrics.

I have a husqvarna viking 5610 and it was an auction find. The reverse button doesn't work at all. It won't go in or anything. I've looked inside the back and it doesn't appear that...

Try setting the machine in direct sunlight with the back cover off and let it get nice and warm. It might even need a little assistance from a hair drier. Warm the area directly behind the reverse button. If you can get it to move a little, you will see which parts are moving. Use Tri-Flow on these parts and they may come loose without having to take it in for service. DO NOT USE WD-40 or 3-IN-1 oil. Go to a bicycle shop and get a small bottle of Tri-Flow liquid.If that won't work, any authorized Husqvarna Viking repair center should be able to take care of it for you. Don't force anything too hard. If you break anything, you may not be able to find parts as they are no longer available from the manufacturer.

Check to make shure your machine is not set to do a button hole. If thats not the problem the reverse button may be sticking. If so loosen up with wd-40.
