To replace the brake light bulb for the Nissan xTerra 2002, remove the two bolts that anchor the light cover. A 10mm socket wrench fits. When replacing the cover, simply repeat the process backwards. The light cover will snap into place, then replace the bolts
You should need only a torx or a philips head screwdriver. Remove the assemply, unscrew the bulb and replace it. You shouldn't have to rewiring. Are you just replacing the assembly because it is broken or is it just the bulb. Let me know and I will get back to you.

I have an '03, and if the mounts haven't changed, you get at the bulbs by opening the hood and removing three screws that hold the headlight assemply - large screws in plastic tabs. ONce they're out, pull forward on the inside edge (toward the centre of the grill) of the headlight assemply. Should slide out toward you - might hear a 'snap'. Once it is out, unscrew the 'cap' behind the light, diengage the spring clip and pull out the bulb.
just take a hex head srewdriver and there are 4 bolts in the headlight housing, remove them and the chrome trim should pop out and just twist the turn signal assemply from the trim panel......be aware, the lil orange lights come out really hard
