SOURCE: technics 5 cd changer sl-pd787

Does it show the disc length or any other details? Have you carefully cleaned the lense with a q-tip and some alcohol? Can you hear the laser moving in and out of focus? If you push the laser sled out away from the centre does it move back to the middle when youi put a disc in?

SOURCE: When Making A CD To Play On My technics SL-PD8 It

If thhis happens quite often , and does not depend on the media, then it is usually a dirty lens problem. The lens is dirty or scratched and sometimes cannot read CD TOC (table of content).

If this happens only on reocrded CDs , try changing the media used. For example if you used +R, try with -R.

If this happens on all media, then try cleaning the lens with a lens cleaner CD or blowing some canned air on the lens.

Technics SL-MC60 error message: "Take out"

Hello
If a disc has been put in the slot of the disc in play, Remove the disc, whose number is displayed, and press stop button.
Because of light or noise, the changer has detected a disc in the lot of the disc being played, even though it is empty. Check whether there is a disc in the displayed slot. With front panel closed, hold down "STOP " button for atl least four seconds or more.

Hi!

I dont't think that your cd-changer is broken. It may only need some cleaning. One year is time enough for dust to set on optical reader. I suggest to use a cleaning disk, available on every store selling optical media.

Hope it helped,

I have a model sl-pd847 and experience similar problems to many other submitters. I checked the main pcb and found discolouration around what appear to be 2 (power?) transistors and probably a voltage regulator. After about 4-5 minutes after switch on these get really hot. I suspect that may be the reason why it doesn't work anymore. Worth fixing? I don't think so. This one didn't even play CD-R let alone CD-RW! Get something a bit more up to date I say.

I AM HAVING ERROR EACH TIME I TRY TO PLAY A CD.

When your CD does not read any disk, and returns error, that is usually because of a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, or a faulty spindle motor unit.

If it is a lens problem, then you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read, therefore the error.

Whe this problem is starting you may be able to read only few CD, DVD. After more prolonged usage , the unit will start losing the rest of functions, and ends up not reading anything at all, and returning error.

If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This situation is far less common than the lens problem.

Try first using a CD/DVD cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the player , and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the lens, or the whole drive unit.

I believe it can only read certain bitrates. I noticed that if I run the track error files through audacity and re-save as an mp3 with 192 kbps encoding it plays fine. Give it a try - re-encoding.

String ???

Yes, I have a soloution to this "String" problem.
Only because I have repaired mine twice already.
Unscrew the unit and take cover off,you will see the mangled "sting" wich is actually more like aviation cable takes some skill and a pair of steady small hands to fix.
you have to re-thread the wire back into position by hand on the left hand side you will see small wheels where the cable sit's in then rethread the changer post with 4 wheels thred it inside left bottom to outside left top, to over right top to inside bottom right.
I have temporarily fixed it. if you shake or mis handle the unit somehow it will fall off again!!
The reason for this is when the disc's change the guide wire will get looser with age and fall off.
the proper way to fix this is to take a pair of pliers and pull the string out the side where it is fastened pull it tighter to reduce the slack in the cable DO NOT over tighten or it wont change discs at all!!
keep playing around with the cable till it's re-threaded properly, you'll know when it's threaded right and be carfull not to bump it back off while screwing the cover back on. It's almost like re-threading an old movie projector.and if you feel daring you can try my permanant fix suggestion to tighten it some how with pliers to reduce the slack.
I almost threw my CD changer out when that happened i thought it could'nt be fixed but it is possible and it works fine.

I have not permanantly fixed it myself with pliers, but i'm pretty sure it would work, that way you wont have to rethread it everytime it falls off.

Won't stop playing.

In the Carousel on the far left there is a slot marked single. Place your favourite CD in that slot and when it's bed time press the single button to the left of the Direct & Program buttons on the front of the unit. Then press play, only the CD in the single slot will be played. Enjoy. Always, Alvin T.
