It sounds like one of two things, either your hard drive is bad, or the formatting on your hard drive is so bad Windows cannot deal with it. To troubleshoot it try booting the computer up with a live run CD or a bootable USB drive and see if the hard drive is accessible . If you booted up with a live run CD or bootable USB drive that has an operating system on it you can reformat the drive (provided it opens) and that will do it. If it does not open, or is not accessible you will have to replace the hard drive
What manufacturer and model-number of computer?
The "big" names (IBM, Dell, Gateway, eMachines) will sell you
(for about $20) a replacement set of "System Recovery" CD/DVD disks. Add $20 for overnight-courier shipping.
Use those disks to reinstall Windows, with the correct motherboard device-drivers.
First you will need to register at gateway, I took the serial number you provided and gateway has no record of it, once you register it, you should be able to purchase the recovery disks. I'm including the link: https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=gateway&sn=0000000000 you need to register in order for this link to work, that serial number has to be in gateways system, once it is you can order recovery media. Hope this helps
if you need an operating system and would not mind using linux (an alternative to windows) look on the www.puppylinux.com site and see if you would like to try it. the download is about 80meg and it runs very fast on all the computers i have used it with. or try looking on softpedia for a free download of the outdated windows xp install disks. or you can buy some disks from ebay. but i reccomend trying puppy linux, it is free and you have nothing to lose.(the disk is a live boot disk, so it should just run off the cd)
the only thing i can think of there is that you have some kind of fault, or maybe try to do a system restore by clicking on start, all programs, scroll up to accessories then to system tol them follow instructions, restore it back a few weeks try that
