Question about Kenmore 55612 / 55614 / 5561 / 655619 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Refrig shut off and will not restart - light bulbs still working

Kenmore Coldspot Side by Side Model # 106.54394300
Problem started with a loud high pitched sound that would not stop until I shut the refrig down & then restarted it. A few days later I noticed that the display lights on the top panel refrig side were not lit and it was not cooling. If I unplugged the power for 10 seconds and then plugged it back in, I would hear the high pitched sound and then the compressor would turn back on, the lights on the display lit and it started cooling again. This would work for a few days and then I repeated the process to turn it back on. This morning it was off and the panel was not lit (light bulbs still on) , but will not turn back on even after resetting it.

This refrigerator sounds like a 'frost free' type, and as such can, usually, only be repaired by the manufacturer. local refrigeration engineers cannot get the parts. your fault sounds like a PCB (printed circuit board) has gone, which only the manufacturers have in stock.

Kenmore elite coldspot model 106.74219400 freezes in the fridge never gets above 5 or 10 degrees and it never shuts off.

there is a flap in the refrigerator side usually near or behind the light bulb the freezer side is thermostatically controlled with the compressor being controlled. On the refrigerator side the cold air comes from the freezer side. when this flap is open the refrigerator will cool continuously, Check the flap or the duct assembly
here is an illustration of the part

Suggest you take the ice maker out and defrost it. You propably have ice crystal buildup and causing it to labor harder.

Kenmore Coldspot #106.9750610. Icemaker does not

restricted water flow or pressure from house water where your taped into. your shut off or Tap a line may be cloged or if you have a water filter its cloged. It could also be a bad water valve in rear of refrig. start at the sourse of water and work back to frig. A rare thing could be that the timing gear on the ice maker is burnt and not trigering valve long enough to fill icemaker

Warm refrig and freezer

You probably need some refrigerant added. There probably is a leak in the system that caused the lack of refrigerant. Get the leak fixed and add refrigerant before you blow your compressor too. Or get a new fridge.
