Tip

Configure XBOX with Media Center

Windows Media Center setup on your Xbox 360 Begin by connecting your Xbox 360 to your home network. The Introduction to Home Networking guide on the Xbox website will provide information if you're setting up a network for the first time or if you need some guidance for adding the Xbox 360 to your existing home network.

Once your Xbox 360 is connected to your network, begin the Windows Media Center setup process by pressing the green button on your remote control (if you have one), or use your game controller to select the Media Center option from the Media tab in the Xbox 360 on-screen menu.

You are asked if you want to connect your Xbox 360 to a PC running Windows Media Center in Windows Vista. Select the Media Center option to continue.

Once your Windows Vista-based PC has been detected, your Xbox 360 will display an eight-digit code. Write down this code on a piece of paper, and then go to your Windows Vista-based PC.
Note: When connecting to a Windows Vista-based PC, you do not need to select Continue or download additional software.
Add your Xbox 360 as an Extender to your Windows Vista-based PC Important: During the setup process, the Windows Firewall is automatically configured to enable your Windows Media Center Extender to connect to your Windows Vista-based PC. If you're using extra security software that includes a non-Microsoft firewall, you may need to manually configure your firewall to ensure a successful setup and connection.

With your eight-digit code in hand, begin by selecting Windows Media Center from the Start menu in Windows Vista. From the Windows Media Center menu, select Tasks, and then select Add Extender. This will begin a simple, step-by-step path that will add your Xbox 360 to your Windows Vista-based PC. During this setup process, you will be asked to provide the eight-digit setup key you received from your Xbox 360.
Click through this preview of the setup to familiarize yourself with the process.

The Extender Setup screen provides an introduction of the steps you'll go through to add an Extender to your Windows Vista-based PC. Click Next to start the process.

Enter the eight-digit setup key you received from your Xbox 360 (the one that you wrote down on your piece of paper, right?), and then click Next.

The setup process will need to make changes to your Windows Vista-based PC settings to establish the connection to the Xbox 360. Click Next to continue.

Review the information provided about Away Mode. Make your selection, and then click Next.

The setup process will ask if you would like to share media with the Extender. Select Yes (recommended) to share media folders, and then click Next. If you are using User Account Control, you'll see a User Account Control dialog box that will seek your permission to run the Windows Media Center Extender Configuration. Select Continue to grant permission.

Your PC will now go through the remaining steps to configure itself and establish the connection to your Xbox 360.

That's it! You're done! When you're finished with the PC setup, go back to your Xbox 360, and start enjoying access to all of the digital entertainment stored on your Windows Vista–based PC through your Xbox 360.
Optimize your home network The quality of your entertainment experience, especially video playback, is dependent on having a reliable and high-performance home network. To help ensure the best performance, we recommend that you run the Windows Media Center Extender Network Performance Tuner during the setup process on your PC. The Network Tuner provides very specific feedback on your network, as well as tips to solve any potential problems.
You can click through the preview of the Network Performance Tuner to familiarize yourself with the process.

The Network Performance Tuner runs diagnostics on your home network and provides feedback on potential issues that would make your Windows Media Center experience less than optimal.

When analyzing the network, the Network Tuner provides specific feedback based on all of the components connected to your network.

The Network Tuner provides feedback on the types of media that your network may have trouble handling effectively and suggests corrective actions than can help to solve the problem

The Network Tuner also looks for performance issues related to how your network is set up. In this case, the fact that the Windows Vista-based PC and the Xbox 360 are both connected wirelessly to the router may cause performance issues. You'll only see these warnings screens when the Network Tuner has detected a problem.

Real-time feedback is offered through the Network Tuner, so you can see if the adjustments you make to your network improve the performance.

Shrey

None moderm driver

your modem driver is available from compaq here : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=501777&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en
select which operating system you are using on the first page (XP or Vista) and the next page scroll down to where it says ORIGINAL drivers, download the file to your desktop so you can find it . here's how to install it:
Installation Instructions 1. Download the driver package.
2. Double-click on the icon for the driver package downloaded in Step 1, and then click NEXT.
3. Accept the terms in the HP license agreement, and then click NEXT.
4. Click OK to continue. The original drivers are now stored in the C:\HP\Drivers\Modem folder.
5. If Device Manager does not start automatically, use the following steps. Otherwise go to Step 6:

a. Click Start.
b. Right-click My Computer, and then select Properties.
c. Click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button.

6. Click the + (plus) sign next to "Modem" or "Other devices".
7. Right-click "PCI Simple Communications Controller" or the device you want to update, and then select Update Driver.
8. Click NEXT to install the software automatically.
9. Click FINISHED to complete the installation.
Regards.

My samsung till won't talk to my lap top

Windows Vista is the last operating system that you would want to use for legacy hardware -legacy being anything that requires a usb to rs 232c adaptor. Scripts required to make this work would drive you to an abacus. If you need to have a cash register input on a permanent basis I would recommend another operating system, even a real old computer would be easier to interface or you could use the modem output of the Samsung to connect to your laptop in a LAN configuration maybe even with a null modem connection. Vista will drive you crazy with permission denials with cries of cyber-sodomy with an analog interface directly connected. The Samsung 755 has a USB interface but since you don't have the correct input for your laptop it will be far easier to use the cash register an an old (cheap) computer with an RS 232 interface and connect it to your laptop with a wired or wireless LAN configuration. Those USB to DB9 0r DB25 or PS2 adaptors still cannot match the speed parameters that the laptop US Host controller would ever find acceptable. Windows XP or 2000 might be a consideration but Vista is already neurotic enough without interfaces it was not designed to accomodate. I hope this will save you from alot of frustration. respectfully, Steve Medley

I disconnected my son's lap top and we can not connect to the internet on his lap top It's saying on the lap top can not display this page Laura

Try connecting to http://209.235.250.53/

If it works, the laptop is using a bad DNS address. How you fix that depends on the operating system - XP or Vista.

I AM CURENTLY AWITING ANOTHER REBOOT DISK AS THE MANUFACTUERS OF THE LAP TOP SAID IT MIGHT NEAD THE FULL INSTAL OF VISTA HOME BASIC AND NOT JUST THE REBBOT PROGRAM VERSION I GOT WITH THE PC. AS THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE START UP SETINGS THAT CONFIGS THE BIOS TO USE VISTA. ( I DIDNT UNDERSTAND THIS TILL I ACTURLY GOT INTO THE BIOS) THE NEW DISK WILL ASLO INCLUDE A NEW PRODUCT KEY THAT DOES NOT NEAD TO BE CONFIRMD VIA INTERNET TO USE AS IT IS JUST THE BASIC VISTA PROGRAM THAT SHOLD ALOW ME TO INSTAL MY UTILITIS AND DRIVERS TO INSTAL THE MODEMS AND OTHER SYSTEM FILES. WHEN I ORIGANLY GOT THE LAP TOP IN 2007 THE REBOOT &RECOVERY DISKS ONLY HAD THE SET UP PROGRAMS THIS ALOWS YOU TO INSTAL VISTA OPERATING SYSTEM BUT NOT ALL THE PROGRAMS WILL WORK AS YOU NEAD TO DOWNLOAD THE FULL SYSTEM SETINGS. SO JUST TO LET OTHERS KNOW IF YOU GOT A LAP TOP OR PC THAT ONLY HAD A REBOOT DISK TO CHEK THAT IT IS THE FULL VERSION ( NEW VISTA RECOVERY 2008 ) AND NOT THE 2007 ONE

I WIL LET YOU KNOW HOW I DID IT IF THIS WORKS

Usually Vista does not need driver to install an USB Mouse.
Try this:
Turn off the laptop, then put the mouse connection. Turn on again. See if now it is working. The mouse should be connected in "off"
If still does not work, try put in other USB port of the laptop. Usually a laptop has at least 2 USB port. Remember to connect it always in "off".

If you really want to format it and wipe everything then you will need a copy of Windows Vista to boot up from, but if I were you I would give Vista the elbow and buy XP instead.
