Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

My whirlpool microwave gh9177xlb1 keeps going out as if no power to it. The outlet is good. I looked behind keypad to see if any loose wires but none found. Put it back together and plugged it in and it worked for about a day and quit again. Took it apart again and can't find any loose wires. Put it back together and it worked again for about an hour then quit again. Just seems to work when it wants to. When the keypad lights up, the oven cooks fine. It's either dead or alive. No error codes. Any ideas? I checked with Sears for a new control panel, but the site says it's no longer available. Any refurbished ones out there?

Sounds like the fuse is blown. Take outer casing off and look and see if the fuse is good or not.

Hi I'm thinking of getting an OTR mictowave and was wondering if I have to install an outlet in the cabinets or can I just place it where the existing wires for the hood fan are. This location would be...

The outlet needs to be in the cabinet above. The microwave needs a dedicated circuit. Turn the power off to the hood and see if any lights or outlets go off on the same curcuit. If only the hood is on that line your good to go with that wire if it meets requirments. Our code asks for 15 amp breaker and 12/2 grounded wire. If it meets your local requirments, just take it up inside the wall to your new outlet location(usually there is enough wire to reach) and install a box, outlet and cover.

Spacesaver powers off 2 seconds after resetting clock and time...

The clue is that you have to reset the clock. You are losing power somehow. the Main Board thinks it is being unplugged and it resets the clock and you have to start all over. The fact that after so many times it will finally work tells me that whatever bad connection you have is finally getting hot enough to expand and make a good enough connection to keep working. Intermittant connections are the worse to find. A lot of trial and error to find the problem. can be bad fuse and fuse holder ( in the unit), bad outlet, loose wire at circuit breaker, loose wire at outlet. Even a loose breaker where it snaps onto the buss bar in the Breaker Box. Etc, it an really drive you nuts trying to find it. Try the unit in a totally different area making sure it is on a compleately different circuit breaker and see what it does, if the problem follows the unit, the problems is in the unit. If not, electrical problems, outlet, breaker, panel,

Outlet works but the microwave is dead, no power at all.

I had a similar problem with my Whirlpool microwave. I replaced a fuse (after reading posts in this forum) and it's working again.  I'm not sure how similar your model is, but in my case it was an in-line fuse in a wire leading down from the main fuse in the upper right corner behind the control panel.

Frigidaire Micro made an odd noise and now it does not work!

Probably due to a loose screw or clip connection where the wires connect to the outlet's terminals.

These must be tight, especially for high-current loads like microwave ovens.

Loose connections can lead to serious or dangerous overheating.

I would say the reason the microwave made it blow was that the microwave's outlet is probably fed by (daisy-chained with) the outlet that blew.

If so, this is not really a good idea.

A high-current load (microwave, freezer, fridge, etc.) should ideally be on its own breaker / fuse with no other items on the same power line.

No Power, Outlet is Fine

Most microwave fuses should be near the front. At least GE's are. You shouldn't have to take it down. unscrew th fan grill and it should be right behind it.

GH7208XR Error Code #7

Behind the right front corner faceplate is a bag with the tech support info.
I used this and went through all the troubleshooting and got to the power inverter board. This board has the 2 red wires out of it that go to the magnetron. Instead of replacing the whole inverter module , I examined all the components on it. I found that there are 2 high voltage rectifier diodes attached to the transformer and 1 of them was not testing good. The diodes are UXC2B diodes.. Just clipped out the bad one and soldered in a new one.
Hope this helps..
