Question about SmartDisk FireLite 80 GB Hard Drive
All of a sudden, my Firelite hard drives fail to mount on my black Macbook (bought in 2007, MacOSX10.5.6). The problem is not the Macbook, since this also happens in another Macbook (white, bought last year). Besides, my hard drives mount fine when I plug them to my iMac 24" or MacMini. Since the new Macbooks got rid off the Firewire port, I suspect that Apple might have screwed up by deleting the Firewire settings from the new firmware or System software that gets downloaded into all Macbooks (including updates). I have no way of confirming this, and I have found no information on the Apple website (or on other websites)...any ideas? I would hate to have to re-install the original System Software...
Sounds suspicious, have a look at other world computing, they have all sorts of work rounds for apple limitations. Have you looked in the disk utility to see if it is there? if so run repair and permissions.
