Question about Hitachi 60SDX88B 60" Rear Projection Television

Hitachi 60SDX88B - serial V9C005014 - Rear projector IC's problem

Good morning,

My tv had a "once in a while" problem. We could have the tv running ok for few days and suddenly, image is out - sound still on, You could even close it the remote you had to push the on/off button on the TV to have it shut down.

Since last wednesday, nothing works now. No sounds, no pictures. Front red light comes on and you could also here the transfo energizing the circuits but nothing comes on. The protect light is blinking. There are other green lights on the other board that comes on and on one (i believe it is the center one over the large board and under the lamps) the green light comes on for 4-5 secondes and then off.

Initially I believed it was the tuner. Now I believe it is the IC's.

I have no shorts circuit on the major components. Fuse is ok also.

Can you please confirm if I am right or is there anything else I need to look at?

Thank's

    Hello again,

    This is what I have:

    when power turn ON:

On the vertical left board: (small board about 12 x 16 inches)

Protect light comes RED staydy on (no blink)

    D919 - D920 - D930 - D971 - staydy green on

on the horizontal board: (big one on the bottom)

Protect light comes on RED -blinking

DP22 - becomes green and slowly shade after about 45 - 75 sec

    DP15 - 16 - 20 and 21 = off never comes on.

have no image or sound - even no menu or any kind of display.

    is it good information?

All the green led's on the power/deflection board must be on. If one is off, then we must find out why. The LED has a location number beside it. What is it?

The most commond problem is Q777. Check that transistor and check Q657 and EP98 also. This should take care of the problem.

Oreder part no. X480200. This will take care of Q777, R75A and EP98. For Q657 order part no. 2312282. Call 800-648-6657

NO picture or sound.  The red power light goes on and the green lights inside of tv are on. but nothing is working on the screen

You have a problem with the high voltage section that drive the projectors. Look in the back to see if the three projectors are lit. Then we go from there.

call 800-648-6657 order part number CZ01341. This is the convergence output ic. You will need to replace the red convergence output ic IK04.

First of all: If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service. Even when plugged out, TV's can store very high voltages. It can be much more tricky then working on an amp, and dangerous, be warned... If you don't want to spend too much money, and since you're describing intermittent failures, I would suggest that you open it up and clean the hell out of it, then resolder the connections to all hot parts, plus any solder points that look cracked. Replacing parts can start as low as 10 $, and up to hundreds, so better try resoldering first. Good luck
