Your songs are still there.
Try these 2 solutions.

  1. Turn the player off,Hold the volume up and the power while you plug it into the usb on the computer and hold those buttons until a box opens and says that you are in the tool box.then follow directions in the tool box.(If this didn't open the tool box,go to the next option to open)
  2. open my computer,open your hard drive,open program file,open philips,open toolbox,
when the toolbox opens,it will tell you how to do step one above for your player,(If it doesn't open on the screen it will appear by the clock, just double click to open)

Hi,
Download this software and try to recover the data. or try this link also. If the data won't recover then it is better to avoid this problem again by following the below steps.

  • Check if the firmware on your player is the latest one.always updating your player’s firmware to the latest version can reducethe chance of future freezing or hang up.
  • Do a soft reset by inserting a small pin or unfolded paperclip into the reset hole.
Note: Your songs and data will not be lost or corrupted either of the above method.
If both of them don't work, you may have to use the Device Manager to recover your player.
  1. If you have not already installed the Device Manager, follow the on screen instructions to install the Device Manager fromthe installation CD or download the latest version of the DeviceManager application from http://www.philips.com/support.
  2. Makesure all other applications Windows Media Player or Windows Explorerthat access the device are closed or else Device Manager will notrecognize the device. Launch the Device Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Device Manager on your PC. Select the REPAIR tab on the dialogue box.
  3. Poweroff the player. Press and hold the volume increasing key and thenconnect it to the PC until you are prompted to release the key.
  4. Select the device name and then click OK and REPAIR. IMPORTANT: All music & content of your device will be erased once the Player is repaired.
  5. Once the repair is complete a dialogue box will pop up; click OK and unplug the Player from the computer.
  6. TheDevice Manager will close automatically once the success message isdisplayed. Close all opened application and then unplug your player.
  7. Once the player is disconnected from the computer, the display will show Firmware Upgrading for a couple of seconds and then start up as usual.

This is a corrupted firmware which is the operating software of your mp3 player and if its not detected by your computer now, try first powering off the unit for about 5 minutes and if possible to remove the battery that will be good tor refresh the unit then after that hopefully your computer will recognize and if its recognize by the computer you can now check the manufacturer web site for any firmware update for this unit to fix the problem...

You have the songs on your computer still correct? If so, go into the menu on the device and reset the device to default settings and then the computer should again recognize the device and you should be able to redownload the files onto the device.

This error is caused by a defective hard disk. You will need to call the manufacturer to have it repaired.

There are two possibilities.

1 songs were not saved on default folder, and unit has done reset, like when you push in the reset button at the bottom with a pin.
In this case it resets all settings and files stay there, but in a different folder.

Connect the Go Gear to a computer, and see if you can find the file , if not the disk may have been formatted.

2 The disk had been formatted , when this happen there is no way , not even with recovery software.

3 the disk is defectifve and the rgo gear cannot read anything but an empty folder.
This is the most likely, connect it to a computer and use a diagnostic softare to test the disk. .

push in the reset pinhole button at the bottom with a pin.
In this case it resets all settings and files stay there untouched, if it says 23 Gb in use, then the files are still there and only the system is bad.

    The pinhole resets system settings.

Welcome to Fixya! Try Plugging it into the USB on your PC and then go to Start Menu and Search for the Removable Disk. It should be at the Bottom on the Drop Down list under Search. You should be able to look at Every File in the Player and Send the Songs back to your PC to Reload where you want them. Let me Know!

My gogear is frozen. One song ended and before the next one started it froze and it has been like this for several hours. It doesn't respond to any of teh buttons being pushed

Try doing a soft reset. 1. Press and hold the Power on/off key and the volume + key for a couple of seconds. 2. Then switch on the GoGear using the Power on/off key. Note: Your songs and data will not be lost or corrupted by a soft reset. Update your players firmware to the latest version to reduce the chance of future hang-ups. I tried to sync/download music license (was getting message "drm license needed"), and it froze, can't turn off. HELP?????

There is a small reset button on the bottom but you need something like a needle to press it. Also , I have found when I open up my go gear from my computer and drag and drop songs and videos it has not had any problems.

There is a reset button.
If it freezes again after reset, go to Philips website, get the upgraded version of the Philips Device Manager and run the Update tab in Philips Device Manager.
