TruTech PLV1615T 15 in. LCD TV

So, my tv was working fine, although I had noticed that every time I turned it on the screen would be blue until the channel popped on. But now, the stupid thing just died, or something. It doesn't turn on, and the little red light that comes on when the it's off no longer comes on while it's plugged in, so I'm really confused. I just tried unplugging it, and the in again, and nothing, it just doesn't do anything. I in a fit of anger hit it a little, but only with my hand and not hard enough to damage anything. I really don't know what to do, I mean it was a gift like 2 years ago, so it's shouldn't crap out already.

Correction, the red light is on now, but the tv still won't turn. It clearly has power to it, but nothing is happeneing

  • Anonymous Nov 14, 2007

same problem, also if unplugged for a day or so, will not come on at all for several hours. I used to fix tv's 20 years ago. I believe this is a power supply problem. Probably capicitors or switching diode(triax) or whatever they call them now.

Plug in and just get a grey screen with a speaker pop - no red light. Buttons don't do anything

My t.v. did the EXACT same thing! I have only had it a year. I really don't want to spend the money to replace it. I wish I had looked at this website before I purchased this television.

  • hs99472 Oct 27, 2008

My screen is white and won't do anything else. I've only had it about 2 years, but have actually only used it a few times. Bummed out :(

  • mrmouse Feb 06, 2009

Same exact problem (This is a 26" lcd) that worked for all of 2 minutes. Fortunately/unfortunately I bought it clearance $230 vs $499, but it worked in the store - now i just paid $230 for 2 minutes and a lot of headache. Target will not even give me the time of day as i bought it as-is clearance with a manufacturers waranty only. Just wish it were as-was. This was a few months ago now and i have decided to find some solution as there was really no viable tech support and even thoughwas told I had a warranty because it did not come with the original box voided that oh so great warranty (in the long run this probably saved a lot of headaches as i had to track down the current warranty as this brand was a hot potatoe being passed on from one supporter to another). TARGET KNOWS ABOUT THIS PRODUCT LINE, TARGET HAS TAKEN A HANDS OFF POSITION AND ESSENTIALLY HAS STOLEN MONEY FROM TONS OF ITS CLIENTS - I rarely go into target now. I'll pass along the suggested solutions and let everyone know how it turns out.

I also had the blue screen then now it won't turn on. Only had it a couple of years and hardly ever used it.

I took the back off and have found several bulging capacitors. Where can I go to get a new powere supply board?

After reading the number of complaints and talking with the factory, my impression is that the product is a lemon, cost vs.months of life makes it expensive, and, therefore this Target product is a piece of junk. The local Target store customer service departmant didn't want to deal with the problem, but ferered me the a toll free number, the factory. We should spread the word and discourage the public from buying Target house brand products. Apparantly, they are not sensitive to a cronic problem. Does anyone know how to put TruTech PLV1615T onto the government's recall list?

Open the back of the TV,and look at the can shaped items on the board that the power cord is hooked to.If any of them have the tops,or bottoms bulged out, they need to be replaced. This should get it working again. So far I have fixed four of the same make, and model TV as this, and they all had either one,or two bad capacitors.I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please let me know.Thank You very much!

These TV's have a common glass see-thru fuse in the power supply.Remove the back of TV and you'll see it in the power supply section, the area where the power cord is soldered to the c.board.Remove fuse and test the fuse for continuity with a multimeter or continuity tester. You CAN"T ALWAYS tell if its blown just by looking at it.
I've repaired 2 of these already that I bought cheap on Ebay. Both had defective fuses.

Sorry to say there is a problem with circuitry inside the TV. It could be many things, but is probably the power supply. It is hard for me to say what the problem could be without opening it up and looking at the circuit board since there are many things that could have went wrong. It is most likely something small, I once fixed a TV with power problems and it was just a cold solder joint (not enough solder).

TV won't turn on. The red light is not on either.

the power supply in this unit needs to be reapired or replaced, there is a fuse but I would not recommend changing it unless you have a tech do a visual exam of the caps in the power supply unit otherwise you could smoke the whole tv. Good luck
