I have tried connecting via remote assistance but it now won't allow me to connect (claiming a dns error). Whe I COULD connect I noticed that limewire doesn't have an uninstall. If I just dlete through programmes and do a search in the regsitry for all elements of limewire will this be safe enough?

Unfortunately that model of modem does not support assigning DNS. Call 18009218104 option 2. This will get you tech support. Ask for a new modem. They should give you a Netgear 7550 for no extra charge. If they want to send you to another department tell them that there is no need for that and to ask their supervisor how to send up a modem upgrade order. It may take a day or two for you to receive the new modem. Once you have the new modem and it is fully set up you can assign the DNS by followiing these steps.
Browse to 192.168.254.254 Log in with username: admin and the password you set when configuring the modem (If the modem is configured by Frontier then the password will be also be admin like the username.) Click My Connected Home at the top Click Network Connections on the left Click the Action button next to Broadband Connection (DSL) Under the VCs sections Click the edit button to the right of where it says PPPoE or PPPoA.
Here you will find a spot for DNS Primary and for DNS Secondary
Enter the numbers given to you by Roku in these to spots. Click Apply. And you are done. If you have any issues with following these steps just call 18009218104 Option 2. This will get you Frontier tech support. Ask them to show you were to assign DNS servers for the PPPoE connection in the modem's firmware. They will guide you through it. If they claim they cant help you with that it probably just means they dont know how. There are definitely people there who do know how and can help you further. Tell them to ask someone else there. If you have any additional questions for me please feel free to ask by replying here.
Please note that all information here considering Frontier's modem replacement policy assumes that you are not behind on your bill or have a payment plan and could change at any time. The information I have given is based on what the policy in place as of 5-7-2013 at 10:19pm Central Time
this error is due to either the modem not being able to communicate with the network server via the dial up number or the modem string has not been set for the modem. Dial up modems are very finicky and require the proper settings to work properly. Windows modems are the most notorious for not connecting and have to be setup properly to connect. 1. check your properties of the modem in the device manager. check the tcp/ip settings to see if you has the connections to obtain an IP automatically and DNS automatically. check to see if you don't have long distance set. Please provide more information as to you issue such as : a. model number b. manufactured by/model c. You have checked the user manual 1st. Please give detailed information as to your issue to better assist you in your resolution of the problem you are having. The more information given will help determine the resolution and guide you to the proper fix for your issue. Thank you.
According to Speed Guide the modems default internal IP is 192.168.254.254. Try setting your network card with a static address of 192.168.254.100, subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, and default gateway to 192.168.254.254. Set your primary DNS to 22.214.171.124 and secondary to 126.96.36.199.
After you do that, open a command prompt (Start>Run, type "cmd", press Enter), and type "ping 192.168.254.254". If you get a response you know that your PC is seeing the modem.
Most likely the modem is not broadcasting a DHCP address which is causing you these issues.
