I have a P4S800D-X motherboard with a 1TB SATA hard drive. I'm unable to install Windows XP Pro. I have tried the SATA drivers on a floppy disk to no avail. I've tried using nLite and including the SATA drivers by ASUS... still.... to no avail.

Note: The Microsoft Windows XP CD is a bootable CD and in many cases you should not need a bootable floppy diskette. Booting from the Windows XP CD will allow you to not only install/re-install Windows XP but will also allow you to troubleshoot it.

Create MS-DOS bootable diskette

When formatting a floppy diskette, users have the option of creating a MS-DOS startup disk, follow the below steps to do this.

1. Place diskette in the computer.

2. Open My Computer, right-click the A: drive and click Format.

3. In the Format window, check Create an MS-DOS startup disk.

4. Click Start

Create Windows XP Setup diskettes

Microsoft is beginning to phase out bootable floppy diskettes in favor of bootable CD discs and has not included a method of easily creating a bootable floppy diskette in Windows XP or from the CD. However, Microsoft has downloads available for users who still need to create bootable diskettes to install (not upgrade) Windows XP. These downloads can be found through KB310994.

hope this helps you

I con not setup win xp on the hard without floppy disk

Start your computer. Enter BIOS SETUP. Select "Boot Order". Configure to make the CD/DVD the *FIRST* boot-device. Put the Windows CD/DVD into the drive. Save/Exit from BIOS SETUP. Your computer will restart, and will "boot" from the Windows disk in CD/DVD drive.

Asus P4S800D-X mobo and sata hdd problem

I believe you need to load in the SiS 180 RAID controller for this MOBO during the Windows Install.

Do this by loading the driver onto a floppy and pressing F6 when told to do so by the windows install.

How can I setup sata drivers using cd or dvd

Hi, I think the problem lies with your bios setting. Set the POST to first boot from the CD/DVD drive. If it is set to first boot from the CD/DVD drive, then the problem comes from the disk. It might not be a bootable disk. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks, Mike H

Operating system

Hi Paul, please go to the hard drive's manufactures web site, example; Seagate, Western Digital, Maxtor ECT & download their software for a bootable floppy disk. Tools & utilities. Use this software to format the hard drive. You can also test the hard drive with the same software. If you still get a blue screen from windows (Which is unlikely). Back up & download, Darik's Boot and Nuke floppy disk software. Click on this link:
http://dban.sourceforge.net/ . There is plenty of readme.txt to help you understand what the software will do. Once finished run you're bootable software from the hard drive manufacture. Install you're windows XP software CD.

Good Luck!

Do I really need a floppy disk to do an upgrade bios?

Of course floppy is the easiest but if you configure a flash drive with flash drive utilities to be bootable, and the BIOS will support it you can flash from the USB flash drive.

Do I really need a floppy disk to do an upgrade bios? I don't have a floppy disk, can I use a cd rom?

The real question is why and truly if you need to upgrade your BIOS. You should avoid unless you have a specific reason to do so. Secondly you can use alternate methods to upgrade such as a bootable CD, which you can use several programs to create. UltraISO is one and a free trial is available.. The resulting disk will start on boot the same as the OS disk would self start. You should also check your Boot sequence to ensure the read of the bootable CD as priority 1. The bios update needs to occur in Dos, rather than through Windows. Look here for exact instructions fron ASUS:

And look here for Bios update files:

Gigabyte motherboard cd

You do not not need your motherboard CD to preform a format on your drive. Any windows CD. Win XP home, XP Pro, Win 2000 will format your hard drive. You can also use the hard drive's Mfg's utility disks & creat a bootable floppy disk or creat a bootable CDROM disk that will not only allow you to format the hard drive but also fun testing on the drive. You can even pick your cluster size & FAT file. Write down the name of your drive & model no#. Go to the Mfg's web site & download the utility software. Chances are Windows will have most of your boards drivers in it's data base. All you'll need to do is download from Gigabyte your missing drivers. You'll need you complete model no# & version no# if you can find it.
