The Dell GX620 as well as SX270/280 computers are a few models of many that suffered from Faulty Capacitors on the motherboard which regulate power supply. When they totally fail, about 4-6 of them on the board, the power light will be orange and the system will not post. Other systems also include reaching a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) before Windows loads, or even random BSODs while running windows.

IF you have decent soldering skills, you can order capacitors from and replace the 2200uF 6.3v caps on the board and the system will start fine.

I have done about 40+ such repairs can confirm with 90% confidence this is the cause of your orange power light and non-booting issues.

Dell optiplex gx 280 beeps 6 times when turnd on and nothing happens

The ram is either bad or unseated. Reme it all and reseat it. If that doesn't work, boot after adding each stick to find which stick or slot is bad.

My dell optiplex gx 620 I have everything disconnect n one Orange light lights up n quickly turns off. What does that mean

If the system is giving an orange light on the tower, there are two points of failure , either the power supply or the motherboard has gone bad. Take it to the nearest computer store , they have power supply tester and will let you know if the same is just a power supply or the motherboard.

Thanks for using Fixya

My gx 620 the power button only led orange light and prosser fan is running but no display

This problem is usually caused by a failure on the motherboard. It is repairable if you can solder. The repair involves replacing 5 small parts. Look over this article on our web site at: The article show what to look for on your motherboard to determine if your board is affected. The capacitors should be flat on top, any bulging indicates failure.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Dell GX 280 wont start

An Amber blinking power button indicates a low voltage problem. This can be caused by a defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure that nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables to CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.
