No, Garmin units are set to proprietary mapping so you have to use Garmin or Garmin-compatible maps.

SOURCE: my sat nav map is over 12months old how do i

OK, what you need to do, is go to the GPS Manufacturers website, download the latest software for your unit and PC. Install this as Administrator. Now connect up your GPS via the USB cable. Then turn on the GPS, then update using this software, Reboot and using it's now, updated software, download, any updates, as may be, from the website, it is all done through the GPS's internal program.

Updated maps on my garmin nuvi 500 and used it in Belfast the last day. The road I was traveling on was not recognised by the garmin. Why would this be when I updated maps

If it was a new road it may be that it was not yet added to the map. If it was an older road it may have been left out of the map by mistake. You can report map errors to Navteq, who make the maps Garmin use, at http://mapreporter.navteq.com/?app.basemap=jsl
I know that may not be much use to you for now but it will be corrected in a later version of the map.

Garmin maps show Vale Ave, Ferndale,Gauteng, South Africa incorrectly. I run a guest house. guest arrive here irate because your map does not show Vale ave where it is. Coming from malibongwe down Oxford...

Navteq make the maps for garmin, and many other, satnavs. You can report map errors to them at http://mapreporter.navteq.com/?app.basemap=jsl and they will correct it. It may take a few months to appear on satnavs as it's a long process but I have reported errors and changes in the past and they were corrected in periods of 6 months to 1 year.

How long does it take for new roads to appear on updates/downloads?

Navteq, who make the maps for Garmin and many other satnav makers, updates maps every 3 months or so. If they have been told of a new road it will generally appear on the next update unless it's reported too close to the release date. While most new roads are reported to them by the authorities you can report them yourself if you think it should have appeared on the maps by now.

If you want to report a new road or a map error you can do so at http://mapreporter.navteq.com/
There's a guide on how to do this on the left hand side of the site which can be downloaded.

Hi is there a way for us to notify someone to alter mapping that is wrong i.e. a road that you can no long go up but the sat nav trys to send you up it. and when the speed limit has been changed i.e/ from...

Yes, Garmin satnavs use Navteq maps. Go to www.Navteq.com and there's a link there called Map Reporter where they take reports of map changes. I have reported several in the past and eventually they all appeared on map updates.

I have just bought an x type jaguar. The sat nav system only recognises the european network and no postcodes in england. Any ideas please??

Ensure the map data dvd that you have for the car covers the uk. it might only cover mainland europe is should state GB on the packaging or on the disk itself.
alteratively in the set up the previous owner may have removed uk maping or uk post codes from the system and they may needed to be reloaded.

if your system an navteq one prior to 2003? it is known that the mapping from that period did not support uk post codes i assume buying a new mapping software will resolve this issue. I would recommend checking with jaguar in case any system software upgrade is also needed to read later mapping data versions.
