Question about Washing Machines

Hoover 500m top loader washing machine fails to stop at 'OFF'

I have a hoover 500m top loader, recentlyit has started playing up, When i put on a 'regular' wash in the dark blue section of the dial it continues washing past the 'off' at the bottom of the dial, and restarts to fill again and washes through the green section until it finally stops at the 'off' at the top. My clothes get washed and spun dry only to be washed and spun dry again through the green section. Please help!

SOURCE: washing machine slowly fills with water when off

Its likely the diaphragm on the water valve is clogged with hard water deposits and is leaking.
You can try to fix it by running some CLR cleaner through the water hose with it disconnected from the tap. or just replace the water valve.
a symptom of this issue is that water is always filling the machine. and you have hard water.
you can get to the water valves and take them out and replace/clean them by removing the top cover (3screws in top rear)
unplug the AC cord.
follow the water hose from the tap the first dual block you see has 4 wires and the hoses plastic connected to it. easy to remove.
But if the machine is not leaking all the time and the machine just wildly decides to activate the relays for water ( you will hear the solenoids click for more water flow then the issue could be the computer control unit.

SOURCE: Spin Dryer doesn't work on Hoover 500M

Most probably the solonoid (also called brake motor). This is a 5 rpm motor that activates the drum to spin. I just replaced it two days back in my machine (Model 500M0AUS - you'll have to be specific when ordering or better take the old one to the spare part shop) which had a similar problem. The new soloniod I bought had a shorter cable length so I had to improvised when fitting. If soloniod is the problem then make wure the steel brake lever tooth fits perfectly in axle groove when you finish replaceing it. Do the replacement when the machine has fully stopped after completing its wash cycle.
Repair technician quoted 250 while the solonid costed me only 86. I did not charge labour to myself:)
Hope this is helpful.

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Hoover 550MA top loader tub starts to vibrate when spin starts and bang into the sides also touches the top.Noticed a rip in the top plastic cover of the tub. The load is balanced and not overloaded.

The top rubber gasket stops water splashing over the top, it also gives some deadening effect in spin. You need that replaced and also check the balance springs and shock absorbers. They do break, come dis-attached or fail.

My Hoover 500M top loader is very noisy on the spin cycle intermittanly. It sounds like a faulty or dry bearing, maybe when the water pump is emptying the bowl. The noise stops as soon as the spin cycle...

First I would bench check the water pump and see if it is operational or not. If it is then I would check the transmission. When it is in the spin cycle it switches to the high speed, so if you hear the grinding only in the spin cycle it could be the high speed gear.

Do you have any indication of a transmission leak? Fluid on the floor or on the transmission?
