Question about Computers & Internet
There is always a chance you need a new screen for your laptop, that or something is causing an error with the motherboard, and that would mean your laptop is basically totaled. if you can connect you laptop to an external monitor, such as a television or a computer monitor, i would try that first, because if it's connected and it works on the external monitor that means there is a problem with your screen, if this does not work, then most likely it is an unresolvable issue.

Sounds like your inverter has loose components on the pcb. Replacing inverters is not that costly and a relatively easy repair. Read about CCFL tube failure here.

Testimonial: "excellent advice and right on, as I have solved my problem by replacing the inverter"
I've had the same problem with a Dell Lattitude D531. I've been told that it's the screen itself (which may have led to the original inverter going bad) but that one should also check to make sure none of the screws are making contact with any wires back there.
