Question about Homelite Yard Broom 2 Leaf Blowers

My yard broom 2 starts but doesnt keep running

I replaced the fuel lines fuel filter primer bulb and spark plug. starts but only idles for a few seconds then stalls.

    should i just spray carb claener on it or do you think it has to soak

    also after i prime it a few times and it fails to stay running some fuel leaks into the airbox any thoughts on that

SOURCE: My homelite will no longer stay running.

i would start at the muffler & pull it off ,,ck out the exhaust port where u just took the muffler off,,see if it is loaded up with carbon,,need to clean it out,,i find then in the trash,,& take them apart,,and most of the time its just that,,because u are using a gas & oil mix,,try it ,, hoped it helped,,

You have found the HI and LOW settings. The idle wouls be set by starting and warming the unit up. After warm up, take your screwdriver and turn the LOW screw OUT until the engine starts to lose RPM's. Turn the screw IN until it starts to lose RPM's. Once you have those two points, back the screw about halfway between. You can do the same for the HI setting if you need to. Good luck...Lee

I would recheck the carburetor to make sure you put the diaphragms next to the carburetor and not the gaskets.
Please if it is not priming you may have the fuel lines hooked up wrong. Also check the fuel cap to make sure the vent assembly is there. If the tank is not venting, the tank will get a vacuum in it not allowing fuel to flow.

Will not start


More information would be nice. How old is the cultivator? How long has it been since it last ran?
Possible causes for the primer bulb not to fill: 1. the bulb has a small hole in it (need to replace the primer bulb, usually a pretty easy job, just remove a couple of screws, remove the old bulb and install the new one). 2. One of the fuel lines may have a break or hole in it. If the cultivator is old enough a fuel line may have dry rotted and came apart.
A couple of things to try: Put fresh fuel in the tank then remove the air filter and put a few drops of fuel in the carburator then try to start the unit. If it starts an runs for a few seconds and dies the problem is the carb. is not getting fuel to the engine. If it still will not start check the spark plug. Is it fouled? Worn out or broken? If in doubt replace the plug.

take the muffler off and run it after seeing that it runs strong open the muffler and clean the screen inside (it's made to open)

Will not start


After 3 years, the fuel lines may start to decay and the fuel filter in the tank is likely to be plugged. Check the air cleaner and muffler for plugging also. Remove the spark plug and check for spark which should be blue and snappy. If nothing, try a new plug gapped at 0.020". A properly running two-stroke plug should have a light to medium tan color on the interior insulator. A black insulator indicates an overly rich fuel mix or jet setting. A white insulator is either new or running too lean which will damage the piston and cylinder if allowed to continue to run. If you get spark, pour a little mixed fuel into the plug hole and try to start the engine. If you get a few pops, then concentrate on the carburetor and fuel feed. Does the primer bulb bring in fresh fuel when pumped? If not, is the bulb itself damaged or hardened? The primer is supposed to pull fuel through the filter, into the carburetor filling all spaces inside, then out to the primer pump and the excess returned to the tank through another line. Hope some of this helps!

My homelite chain saw will only run after I prime the fuel once gas runs out engine stops running but reprime fuel the saw will run until fuel runs out any suggestions


Did you replace the fuel lines? If the filtered hose feeds the primer that is exactly what happens. Your fuel system should be similar to this.
Fuel Line Replacement
  • The hose in the tank with the filter on the free end connects directly to the carburetor input connection.
  • If the saw is equipped with a primer bulb, an output line from the carburetor connects to the suction side of the primer (once the bulb is collapsed it draws fuel from the tank through the carburetor to refill as it inflates).
  • The pressure side of the primer returns displaced fuel to the tank as it is depressed.

Leaf blower will crank only when spark plug is dipped in gas and re-inserted


fuel system needs to be cleaned, carburetor diaphragms and gaskets replaced, check fuel lines, filters, primer bulbs

Won't start


drain fuel tank. keep depressing the primer bulb until it is clear. drain tank again. remove carb cover and disconnect lines one at a time. keep depressing primer bulb to get rid of excess gas. remove spark plug an turn engine in a position that the spark plug inlet is facing the floor, pull starter rope a few times to get rid of gas in the engine chamber.
