Question about Tomtom GO 700 GPS Receiver

TomTom go 700 flashing cross at start up

My Go 700 crashed on the motorway a couple of days ago, it just froze and would not go past the startup page.

I tried resetting it with a paper clip in the little hole underneath for 15 seconds as told on Official TomTom website support.

This never worked.

I carried on following the online support, which told me to use TomTom Home to remove the Application from my Go 700, which i did. It then says, use TT Home to check for available updates, but now it wont recognise my go 700 being connected to the computer so wont search for any available updated applications.

TT online Support went on to say if this didn't work to back it up onto my PC then fully format my go 700. I done this and re installed the backup files and now it still wont work. it now starts up and then a white cross in a red circle comes up in the bottom right of the screen. It still wont be recognised by TT Home.

I think that the application folder is now missing off my go 700.

Does anyone have a copy of the applications that i could install to try?

Can the Go 700 be fixed or is it scrap?

Thanking you in advance for your help

I just had the same problem. I just bought mine a week ago and did everything asked for initialization. However, when I went to turn it on the second time, the screen went dark. I thought it was dead but the voice came on when driving so i think it has something to do with the actual screen. I have tried resetting it as well to no avail and my Mac won't recognize it as being connected to the computer either. Did we buy a crappy product? The guy at Bestbuy thought this was a great product.

Tomtom 720 flashing red cross help!

When your tomtom is flashing a red cross on it, then it means there is a problem with the unit. The problem mainly is that the device did not start up properly. And that is because it did not find the application.
What you have to do is to reset the device for it to start working again. For your type of tom tom, to reset it, to reset it.
Check that the battery is fully charged or you charge it for about 2 hours, remove the SD card, then straighten a paper clip or something similar to push the reset button, then you press the on/off button for about 5 seconds to power on the device then you insert your SD card. The reset button is at the bottom of the device where you have the USB connection port.
Hope this was helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

Wont get past startup no maps it says flashing X

If your navigation device shows only the start-up image or you see a flashing cross (X) after you switch it on, it means that the TomTom application is not installed or cannot be found. You can solve this problem by resetting your tom tom. Ensure that your battery is charged, by plugging it for about 2 hours, then you press and hold the power on/off button for about 15 seconds, it will restart, once it restarts, it means it has been reset. But if it does the same, then you have to back your files on a computer, then you restore your device, by doing so, it will be able to load your maps and work perfectly fine.
Hope this information helps.

I have tomtom 920 and the issue is . 1- It will restart at startup and can?t find GPS. 2- After restart it will stop home page until i restart it. 3- Will not charge 100% 4-toch screen will not respond at...

I recommend to follow TomTom (Support) answer to that question:
"If your navigation device gets stuck after you switch it on, the TomTom application is not installed (or corrupt) or cannot be found (parts of the application). Your device then only shows the start-up image or a flashing cross".

730T - tomtom home hangs when checking for updates - mac

Hi - have had the same problem - if you look on the tomtom website and support they have a list and one is flashing red cross. You need to follow the steps to format the tomtom. I did this and it worked and it included the update. i havent reconnected since i have it working now. I think its a software problem with HOME. Make sure you do a back up on home and make sure you follow step by step. close HOME before you start to reformat and also in the preferences turn off the automatically connect to home when you plug into your computer or it keeps flashing up on the screen to correct. the only solution is to format it. i bought mine two days ago and the first one stuffed up so took it back for a replacement. this one worked when i turned it on but turned out the flashing cross appeared when connected to computer (i have a mac). good luck
