You can be sure by downloading the free Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor Tool from Microsoft.com. Once installed it will scan your system & let you know if your system can be upgraded to vista, which versions are available & if you need additional drivers. If you do need drivers you can find them at dell.com under the support section. All you will need is your model # or your Dell Service Tag #. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.

The Dell Support web site only offers audio drivers for Windows XP or earlier versions of Windows. If you are using Windows Vista or 7 then you will probably have to rely on the default audio driver that these versions of Windows will load automatically when installed as Dell do not offer an official device driver for these versions. The alternative approach if the built in sound device is not recognised and you cannot find a suitable device driver would be to buy either an internal sound card or a USB sound card - the latter just plugs into the USB port, provides the normal audio sockets and can be used to connect your speakers, headphones, microphone etc.
This is because you haven't installed the drivers. Unfortunately for you your chipset is an antiquity that wasn't supported even on Vista. Your only hope is to install its XP drivers, they will give you basic functionality and nothing more.
Do you try downloading the Intel driver chipset.. this install a multiple driver needed by the computer.. and some lan drive work directly with the modem driver. yo need to install too
Hi all,
I tried numerous solutions for this issue and none of them worked except this one. I tested it with Vista Ultimate and don’t know if other Vista versions have the same drivers but here’s what worked for me: 1.Right click ‘Computer’ then left click ‘Properties’ to open up System window. 2.Click ‘Device Manager’ 3.Click ‘+’ on ‘Display Adapters’ and you should see the drivers for your video. Right click and select ‘Update Driver Software...’ 4.Select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’ and click ‘next’. 5.Click ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’ 6.Untick ‘Show compatible hardware’ 7.Select ‘Intel Corporation’ then select ‘Intel 82865G’. Click next
This will install the drivers. No they are not the same drivers for the hardware but they work a treat!

The big problem you will ever face with Windows Vista using optiplex gx260 is the screen resolution...This is a great hurdle in the upgradation of Windows...You're also to keep in mind that there are some softwares which are not compatable with Vista like folder lock etc...So I'd suggest not to shift to Vista...XP is still the best option...allowing multiple tasks to perform securely, faster and without any compatability issue...Enjoy using Windows XP...
