Question about Rocktron Velocity 300 150W Rack Power Amp

Open Question

I just received a rocktron velocity 300, which was shipped over to the UK. 1stly, I received a kettle lead without an AC plug extension, so I fitted a 13A 250V travel adapter, but being as eager as I was to try the amp, I plugged it into a 230V current from the mains and switched it on... only, I forgot to turn the VAC switch from 115V to 230VAC on the power amp (DOH!) After about 10 seconds the rocktron turned off by itself and I have not been able to switch the flipping thing back on again! The other thing was, instead of plugging the power amp to my pre, which is a Voodu Valve; I incidentally, plugged it into a Rocktron Intelliflex, which was turned off at the time. Has this caused a major problem, if so, what should I do to fix it??

SOURCE: I'm using the rocktron banshee

You are probably very near a powerful AM transmitter. This is a shielding problem and use of a better quality audio cable between the keyboard and the Talk Box might help as well as CHANGING the length of the cord. Length afects how good an antenna the cord is.

One could put a bypass capacitor in the Talk Box as what you are hearing is "rectification" of the radio station in the high gain of the inout circuit of the talk box... one or two capacitors would likely fix it... I would try 330 Pf caps first right where the cord comes into the box between the signal and ground points.

SOURCE: My Rocktron Utopia G200 displays

The symptoms indicate either the WRONG power adapter is being used or the adapter is failing. This unit uses a 9VAC (not DC adapter like many pedals) adpater. If you are trying to use a DC adapter or a multiple pedal power supply that is your problem. Use ONLY the correct power supply with this unit.

Rocktron starts buzzing when I play it on keyboard

If it's disconnected from everything else, it may indeed be the power adapter. Try a different one, but also try it in a different location as well to see if it's picking up outside interference.

The power on my banshee is coming on?

Check the polarity of the adapter, if it isn't the original one. Even if you have the right voltage, it still has to have the mA or higher but, most important is the polarity. Most guitar pedals are wired backward on the plug. The positive is on the outside ring of the plug and negative is in the middle. There should be a picture or diagram somewhere on the unit close to the plug to find out. If it is backwards, it could have damaged it, maybe not though. If it is ok, cut the plug off and switch the wires and check it. After all, it's not working now, it couldn't hurt.

We have a problem with the lead that plugs into the receiver, and it has a shrowd over it that screws it in tight. the other end has a 90 degree angle with a mini plug into our camera, can we buyt that...

The lead is probably special. Your choice is probably to go to Sennheiser parts or make your own. The connectors are available. It sounds like the one plug is a 1/8 inch with locking ring... Those are hard to find. Contact Sennheiser to find their part number. 1-877-736-6434 ext. 1

I feel that the 'normal' background hiss is a problem that I would like to minimize with the sennheiser IEM 300. I'm currently using the IE 4 ear phones. Would a different/better earset with maybe a...

No, that will not help. The his is a function of the receiver NOT receiving a signal from the transmitter as they apparently do NOT have a "squelch" circuit to mute the receiver noise when no signal is being received. The noise level when no signal is received is pretty high and apparently the volume control is not enough to reduce the hiss.

To solve this, LEAVE the transmitter ON and make yourself a switch at the receiver. DO this using one of those little in line lamp switches that fit on zip cord. Make one on a short length of zip cor with mating connectors to fit the received jack and the headphone plug. Don't worry about unshielded wire as the impedance is very low. Then you use this switch to mute the headphones when you want to. There are other switch types you can use, I am just suggesting what might be readily available to you.

Sennheiser SHOULD have include a mute switch on their unit as turning the power off on the receiver would be a pain. They could have used a volume control with switch to kill the audio line out... simple solution... oversight on their part.

The light is on but im not getting any sound

Check your power adapter. This unit REQUIRES a 9VAC (not DC) adapter !!!

People are getting these things and trying to use common 9 volt DC adapters like many pedals do, and they juust will not work with these that require AC input.

The active light does not light up when I plug my guitar in and no sound comes out from the talkbox ... But the guitar sound can run through it to an amp where the guitar sound comes out

It sounds like you have NOT connected the power adapter to the box to power it. The guitar sound won't be too loud as you run the hose to your mouth and pick up the sound with a microphone such as a Shure SM57 which then goes to your amplifier. Without the power adapter the internal amplifier will not produce any output.

Increase in delay effect during a lead setting.

This may be he characteristic of mixing of the delayed when high distortion is present...

I would go to music store and compare... I tend to think this is the nature of the beast.

If you consider what the waveforms look like with distortion and then add them delayed... they limit out and when added there is a significant difference when adding or mixing waves that are delayed when squared compared to nice sine waves.
