Question about Canon PowerShot A75 Digital Camera
For the Canon, see this. Canon may repair it for free if it's on the advisory list:
For the Nikon, (and the Canon if it's not on the advisory list) turn off the flash and look down the lens barrel and take a picture. Do you see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If not, the shutter is stuck shut. If you do see movement, then the CCD has failed. Both are rather involved repairs, beyond which can be covered here, or worth the effort. Would instead recommend using these cameras as parts cameras for other cameras with less severe issues (LCD replacement, buttons, switches, doors, etc...).
There are several things that can cause the Finepix problem. But again each of these suggest using the camera for parts.
