Ge wired mouse scroll wheel doesn't work

The scroll wheel, when I try to use it, does nothing, or just makes the page jump around. How do I open the mouse to clean it? I can't find a screw.

John:

The screws to open your mouse are hidden under the glide pads on the bottom of your mouse. remove the glide pads carefully and you'll see the screws. put the glide pads on with a non-permanent adhesive (like contact cement).

SOURCE: Expert Mouse scrolling problem

I have the same problem running under win7 64 bit, I have just pulled apart my expert mouse\trackball to clean it and found that the scroll ring works by using a little infrared diode ... so no cleaning required ...

the screws for the base are located under the little rubber feet.

So I think the problem may be more related to drivers\software...
at the moment I cant find a win 64bit driver or mouse works application anywhere

SOURCE: Screen jumps up / down, scroll wheel not working

My guess is that the scroll-wheel is being pushed down, even when you don't think that you are touching it. It might be "locking" in the "down" position, thus causing it _not_ to work when you do try to scroll.

My scroll wheel skips, jumps, scrolls backward or on its own. Can I fix it?

Take the roller ball out of the bottom of your mouse if it's the older style and clean the dirt and dust of the roller wheels with a q tip and alcohol. If it is an optical mouse try putting a piece of white paper under it when you use it this may help. If not it is time for a new one.

How do I make my scroll wheel work again? It just quit working. Now, I have to click the wheel and move the mouse up or down and it scrolls the page on its own. Nothing happens if I roll the wheel.

If you turn it over you should see 3 or 4 screws in a recess. Sometimes they are covered with stickers. Take the mouse apart and you will see the wheel mechanism and sensors. Clean all the inside with a soft brush.

Or

You could just throw it away and buy a nice new shiny optical wireless mouse.

Did you reboot the computer?

The mouse wheel causes the screen to jump around sporadically and cannot be used with any degree of effectiveness. Is there a setting somewhere that would help me?

If you try all of the above and the problem is still there, especially if nothing about the problem changes and it does exactly the same thing it was doing, you may have to remove the batteries from the mouse, locate the screws that are holding it together ( a couple of them may be hid under the rubber feet) and remove the top cover of the mouse. Look around the scroll wheel and see if there is a lot of fuzz or lint around it. Remove the offending fuzz with a pair of tweezers and put the mouse back together. Now it will (probably) work like new!

The scroller on the top of the mouse does not scroll the page

Go to your control panel of the computer. Click on the tab "Change mouse whell settings" If you do nto find such tab then search for that tab by puttin word "mouse" in the search box.
There you can change scrolling setting. If it doesn't work then remove the wire of your mouse, shut down computer.
Insert the wire and restart computer. This will surely work. If not then contact I'll give you other remedy.

Scroll mouse is choppy when I am trying to scroll. It sometimes even goes back up. Very irritating.

Try going into your Control Panel, go into the Mouse controls, and change the wheel scroll settings. There's a "lines to scroll" option that determines how much or little the wheel moves the page. Try changing this number up or down and see if the problem gets any better. Does the scroll wheel feel OK? is it sticky or hard to turn? is it smooth and loose?

Are you using an optical mouse? I suggest that you have to provide a mousepad since the laser of the mouse will have a hard time to read on its surface especially if you are using glossy surface of your table.

trust me,it works!! =)

Scroll Wheel does not work with some programs.

If you set the mouse wheel to one page at a time for the scroll wheel and install the FF add-on SmoothWheel the scroll wheel will work fine, you can even use the FF add-on to change the scroll amount even more (with the SmoothWheel add-on install in FF the "one page at a time" isn't really one page it goes by the add-ons rules, which is 1/7's page.
