Question about Computers & Internet

Hi there would anyone be familiar with the sony all in one pcv-w30? I can buy one in the morning for 50 bucks and was hopping its not an extremely labor intensive machine to work on. ie like WHAT KIND OF JOB WOULD IT BE TO R&R the MOBO ON IT???. I dont know weather or not its more of a through away machine or what. I have been working on laptops for a few years and pcs for several befor that but never had the 1st thing to do with this machine. I would go through the specs. well its a p4 2GHz, 1 gig ram xp home. And it shuts itself off every couple days or every few hours at random. I have not seen the machine yet so I dont know if its all clogged up with hampster feathers or something similar or the integrated video card will cause me to either sell it for parts or hunt down a replacement to put in. But like I say I have no idea what sort of labor is involved in it or if its built to be thrown away or what. Thanks very much I wouldn't be so hip on geting this thing except I've been so financial whacked. Have a good one folks T_U Again

Sounds like it just needs a good cleaning,It is a good machine and you can't go wrong for the price,If you get it,remove all the programs you don't want or need, clean out the viruses and spyware(if any) and it should be fine. Also, open it up and blow out the dust,(that maybe the only thing wrong with it)

Please rate this fixya

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Vaio PCV-W30- The computer stops at the blue Windows XP screen and will not load Windows. The DVD drive will not open. Cant do a restore. Any suggestions?

Should be a small hole in DVD drive lid.
Turn off computer and carefully insert a straightened paper clip.
Gently push & the lid should pop out.
Then you can open the drive & use the windows cd to repair/restore

Sony Vaio PCV-W30 uses sis 650_651_740 driver but on restart the graphics are horrible. If I uninstall;then re-install, the graphics work well - until another restart. No new drivers for 7 on their site,...

Have you tried simply running a windows update to make sure you have the most current drivers available that way? I have found the preloaded driver database is massive, but usually whatever the initial install misses the update picks up. Hope this helps.

Sony vaio pcv-w30 full display on screen

Download the video driver for your laptop:

Go to this page:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=PCVW30

Go to the video section and download the file to the desktop. Then go ahead and install it and after the laptop reboots at that point you should be able to display with the whole screen.

Hello--quick question--I did a search on yor site--seems others have had the same problem I'm experiencing. The screen on my sony pcv w30 has gone dark--others have said that its the "inverter" or...

If you go to this website it will show you how to change it yourself. It depends where you live, how much the materials cost, and how much the pc repair will charge. So it wouldn't do you any good to get a quote from someone who lives 500 miles away. Just find a pc repair shop and give them a call or fix it yourself per the website. You should be able to find inverters on the web. Good Luck.

Black screen

Hi,

Sounds like a vertical problem if the center line is left to right. Chances are that it's the Vertical IC. If giving the TV a light tap at the sides causes a momentary opening, then it is a cold solder condition on the same IC.

Both of course would require opening the TV and performing the necessary repair. You should be familiar with components and electronic circuitry as well as soldering.  Should you be not that comfortable, perhaps your best bet is to seek the services of a qualified TV technician.

Good luck and kind regards.
