    hi! Julian R,

I did changed the NETGEAR security settings to:

    Security type: No authentication (Open)

    Encryption type: NONE

I have my connection now thru my router(wireless).

I did run the cd thru manual & smart wizard process awhile ago but it still did not work .

. I want to get back to my old setting as WPA-Personal as my Security type, Encryption type: TKIP & Network Security key which is i dont know. Please help. I tried my passphrase key but seems incorrect & did not match thru my network.

i did all those possible solutions sir./madam....I'm working since 10am Philippine time & now its already 7pm...the best solution for the meantime is the settings that ive posted...all i want now is to get back to my old settings which is thru WPA-Personal & TKIP of now the signal on my NETGEAR wireless is excellent. But my laptop will de discoverable to other computers if i stay in this set up (No authentication-Open).

One more question..if i maintain with my current settings, do i have a garranty that nobody can access my files? nor infected some virus from other computers?

Try removing all security and see if you are able to connect. Plus did you run the cd that came with router? Are you trying to connect wireless? or Lan? Main question is how are you connecting? From modem to router? Setting the router up itself?

If not completely undo every little change effects that have been done, remove all security. erase the wireless profiles from your actual machine that you are trying to connect. and restart the process. I am really for sure for security but i was going to suggest finding the highest level of security your network adapter can support. If this is an older card it will have its limitations,

Hi there are you using this wirelessly? it sounds that the network key on your PC doesnt match to the one that is stored on the router. therefore you will not be able to connect.

hi, did you get a network key from your ISP or is this an alternative router,

    log on to

    • The router username is always admin

    • The default password is password
      or (for older routers) 1234
then you should be able to check the settings

if this does not work netgear recommend the following

  • Martin curl Jan 25, 2009

right try to hardwire the router to the pc using ethernet cable then the webpage will display then you can reset the settings

  • Martin curl Jan 25, 2009

i wouldnt have my settings as open mine are set up as WPA-PSK and then the network key that was generated by my internet provider, as i say i would hard wire it then try to reset the router through the reset button on the back of the router. you can then reinstall and change the settings

To set up the router, you connect directly to the router with a network cable, log into the router using your Internet browser, to a code like, or similar. I suggest that you use the wizard, but be sure to change: Wireless security of WEP and access code of your 10 digit home or cell phone#, change system ID to something you recognize, change router access password AND RECORD IT, change wireless channel to 11 and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones.

With routers, you have to SAVE on each page or loose settings.

Then install the router, and look for it in the wireless connections list on your laptop. Give the access password and you should be good to go. The desktop usually connects via network cable.

I have an hp comp that wont connect to my netgear internet access

Define/explain "wont connect".

Are you trying to use an Ethernet cable to connect the two devices? If so, try a different cable, to rule-out a "bad" cable.

Do you have any software like "Norton Internet Security" on the HP? It is notorious for "blocking" attempts to connect to "unknown" networks.

Does your desktop computer have a wireless networking adapter that you are trying to configure/use?

Will any other computer, either via Ethernet cable or wirelessly, connect to the NetGear router? If not, then maybe the NetGear is the problem.

Any error-messages when you try to "connect" ??
Exact wording?

I have another laptop which i want to use with my belkin wireless router, but when prompted to enter password and connect i can remember the code as my works it people set it up are they a way of...

If I understand this correctly, Your work's IT people setup your router and you need the Security Password to access?

You should ask your work's IT people for the password.
If you are asking how to break that security key, I'm am not sure you will find that info here.

I having problems connecting a netgear 54 rt usb adp router to virgin broadband.Router is saying there is an internet connection but computer displays cannot display page and no connection.PS3 has picked...

on your computer try to reinstall the device driver for wireless. try to connect the ethernet cable directly to the computer. if you have internet access, then most likely your netgear router needs to be reconfigured. you need to contact your internet service provider or router manufacturer for the reconfiguration of your router. mostly likely the security settings of the router needs to be changed.

I can not access internet on my computer whilst i am using my NETGEAR Wireless-G Router WGR614 v9 but it works on my psp

Are you connecting wired or wirelessly to the router?
If wired make sure the cables are properly connected and lights are lit on the router,
If wirelesly, make sure to enter the correct wireless settings on your laptop like ssid, channel and wireless security.

I have a netgear rangemax wpn 824. I can't get a connection.I forgot the network key.

Just hook up your computer to the router via ethernet cable. Choose one of the numbered ports on the back of the computer and plug the other end into your computer. Then go to a web browser either internet explorer, firefox, safari, opera, whichever one you like to use. In the URL box try putting or one of these should prompt you for a username and password the default being username: admin and the password: password. After that you can navigate to the wireless setting and then go to wireless security settings to look up or change your wireless security settings. If you have any troubles with this just comment back.

I have been using my Linksys router to connect my home PC's, its been working great, then I bought a laptop and tried connecting to my network but my network key (pass phrase)doesnt work, im sure it is...

Since you are confident that the key is correct, make sure your security and encryption types on your laptop match what is set up on the router. For instance, if you the router is set up for WPA with TKIP encryption, the laptop must be set up for the same.

I would connect it through ethernet cable to router and go into router settings in one window and the laptop's settings in another window just to make it easier to match the two up.

Netgear connection to apple air book

Hi claire,

You will probably need to be more specific here. Are you having trouble getting an Internet connection via plugging your ethernet cable directly into the router, or with wireless?

Does your Netgear router have wireless security enabled? A classic issue with some Apple wireless products is that the Apple notebooks sometimes require a 128-bit WEP key (as opposed to the 64-bit you may be using). Please reply with more detailed information as far as what problems you're experiencing.
