I have an eMachine desktop/tower 3230. I need bios upgrade for extra Ram ...

I have an eMachine desktop/tower 3230. It says in the MBoard booklet that it takes 2 sticks of ram of 1GB each. The original ram was just half a GB. I purchased 2 sticks and the suppliers `read` my pc and confirmed the type I needed - I know I have the right RAM. But it keeps cutting out. It is ok and doesnt cut out with just one stick. The supplier said I need to upgrade the bios - but I can`t find a site that upgrades the Bios for Ram capacity ...

Thanks Tim. The MB booklet says it takes: two 184-pin V DIMM sockets - each slot supports upto 1gb of 266/333 unbuffered DDR DRAM. I got the supplier site to read the pc and I ordered: 2x 1GB PC2100 64x8 184 pin DIMM. The co I ordered it from said to text them individually - i did that and they are ok. She said I therefore need a bios upgrade. The ram we took out is: 256mb DDR 333 CL2.5

Thanks Hans for your answer. You are spot on re the Ram not needing a BIOS upgrade - they told me it did when I phoned them yesterday but when I phone3d them again today to say I cannot find an upgrade for it they then asked me to check a serial number on the old ram ... the PC on it said 2700 and the new one they sent me said 2100 - so they said that was the problem and to send back the stiks and they will replace. So, hopefully problem solved.

Hello visit emachine here:

http://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/default.aspx

And select your pc model by number.

Remember to select the right model, because flashing the bios with a wrong one will destroy the mainboard.

I have newer heard that a bios upgrade was necessary to upgrade the ram.

Some mainboards do have a limit of 2gb ram, and the bios upgrade does nothing to that.

Try to clean the pc out for dust, and renew the the cooling paste between the cpu and the cooling element.

One of the ram modules could have a defect.
Try to test one module at the time.
If you get the blue screen of death, the problem is elsewhere like power supply, or harddrive.

Good luck

SOURCE: Radeon graphics card and 3rd RAM slot conflict

I thought this board looked familiar to me. I recall some rules for the memory cards. Do all your memory cards meet this requirement:

Supports up to 3GB PC1600/2100/2700/3200* DDR SDRAMs

If you are using DDR 400 you can only use 1 slot.

What kind of memory are you using?

T6524 won't recognize all ram

If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use the Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules. first you will need to select the manufacturer from a drop down list then select your product line from a drop down list then select the model then click find it will take you directly to compatible ram also you will have an option to scan your system

Dnt have enough ram to install internet. how do i update my bios so new ram will work on emachines 400i3.

I did a little research on this model, and sadly it may be time to put it to pasture. It uses Win 98 with a 4GB drive. This tells me it just can't handle today's media rich internet. Let alone finding a BIOS upgrade.

Added 2 1GB memory to a T5048. Will not boot. do I need to upgrade the BIOS? Also want to disable on-board graphics and add a pci graphic card.

There are two variants of the T5048 One uses DDR PC3200 ram the other uses DDR2 PC5300
Should be able to look at the old ram and it should say on it what it is. If it doesn't, take out the new, put in the old ram and go here http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx Run the "Scan My Computer"
Some computers will have a setting in BIOS to disable on board video although eMachine are very low end and probably don't offer that. Shouldn't need to just install your video card and plug your monitor into it. It should work just fine without disabling on board.

Looking for video card suggestion. have t6216 w/896mb RAM

i have a 7300gt nvidea in mine right now... ok, but not the best. runs dx9. and it helps to get the bios update from the emachines site to help with nvidea compatibility. To run most games now, you might need more ram, and for the price, a barebones with your old parts thrown in might be a better deal. The 7300gt is pretty cheap if you are just looking for a quick cheap upgrade for now. It works with the original 300 watt psu and works ok for me with 2.5 gb ram (2-4 gb extra ram realllly helps!). I think tiger direct has some nice deals on barebones and cards, it kinda changes daily.

I have a Emachines T5026. It has 2 256mb memory chips in it. To upgrade it I bought 2 512mb Memory Chips but neither of them are being detected in any of the 4 slots.... I don't think both chips are bad. I...

Did you buy DDR PC 2700 ram modules?
Are you sure you've fully seated them in the slots, and clipped them in? See here for compatible memory options for your system.
See instructions to add ram on page 50 of your manual here. or here.
eMachine support doesn't offer any bios updates, so I'd let it go for now...just make sure you have updated hardware drivers...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

PC is not turning on

is your powersupply overloaded by extras (e.g a new graphics card/processor) ? or has it simply given up the ghost?
the pc could also be drawing alot of powewr form you electrics and could've blown a fuse in your power socket/too much demand.
you could also try and update your bios chip. you need to be a bit more specific aswell ;)
