Undo the set screw near where the xlr cable would connect. Use needle nose pliers to gently pull out the connector. Check to see if the connections are solid. Some of the sm48 have switches for on and off, so it could be that as well. hope this helps.

No sound


1st thing to try is a different XLR microphone cable. Sounds too simple, but sometimes it's the cable. If the mic has ever been dropped/damaged, OR has seen alot of saliva/spit from singing into it...it's possible the diaphragm has crapped out. At which point, get a new mic, because the SM-48 is not an expensive mic to replace with same.

The SM86 requires phantom power. Turn on Phantom Power on the mixer.

Make certain the mic and the receiver are in the same exact frequency band. There are stickers on both products that list the frequency band.

The handheld is in a different frequency band than the receiver. There are stickers on both that saw what frequency range they can tune to.

My shure sm48 is registering almost no volume on my marantz pmd430. Ive changed the connector cord. no difference. other cardiod mics work fine, so the problem is the mic, not the recorder
