Hard-disk is not read most of the time.

Sometimes when i keep my laptop in sleep mode and open later on it does not work. Laptop gets restarted when i installed the programs of larger file size. My hard-disk is 500gb. Previously i used to have hard-disk of 160gb of hard-disk. I cant figure out the problem. Is the problem related to my hard-disk or my laptop?

SOURCE: bios shows not hard disk even after putting to Auto and trying User settings

This usually means Hard Drive failure, are your connections good? Is this a new drive? If you know you have a drive with os on it then boot files could be damaged. Can you boot with os disk? You can do a repair from the windows disk in recovery mode. reset bios to default values. Last resort before saying maybe the drive controllers on motherboard are bad. Take apart and do good cleaning. This worked believe it or not on a stubborn laptop that I replaced Hard Drive and still was giving me similar errors. Client says computer has been working ever since.

How to open hp laptop in sleep mode

This is a common problem on HP computers but also has many causes. If your laptop is not coming back on after being put into sleep mode, it could be a software issue among a few other things. If your computer has a hibernation mode I would suggest using it to get around the sleep mode issue. This mode will save everything the way it is and shut down completely. When you restart the computer it will open up just as you left it. Just like sleep mode except with a restart. This does not solve the sleep mode problem but easily provides a power saving alternative to it.

What is the problem if the screen does not go on green and orange light goes on

Is it in sleep mode or hiberating mode? Green or orange lights on the top of the laptop for not fully charge battery or some signal lights for your brand of laptop? If the later, you can check the manual to see what those lights indicates. Otherwise, you may put on the power cord and press the power button to wake it up or restart it. Then set the preference for sleep mode or hiberating mode in control panel, power options. There also could be a hardware issue though. You may need to press on the position of the processor so it will sit firmly on the mainboard and if possible check the connection of cards and hard disks and memories and make sure they are well connected. If there is still an issue, you can try to flash the BIOS, reset the hard disk to factory default according to the manual or there might be an issue with the monitor. Try another monitor connected to the other VGA port of the laptop.

After i've read the solutions from some experts, I did what they advised, I "rebooted" ,"deleted some unwanted files and recent programs" I installed in it, tried "msconfig", "run", "CHKDSK " and "cleaned...

Given all the steps you've tried thus far, it may just save you time and frustration to just wipe the machine and start over. Given you can get into safe mode you might be able to copy any of your important files off to a usb thumb drive or usb hard disk before you wipe it.

If the laptop still has problems on a fresh install of windows, then its time to call in warranty repair.

Hibernation is a power management feature. When you hibernate a laptop, you're essentially turning it off. So, unlike Stand By (Sleep) mode, a hibernated laptop isn't using any battery power at all - that laptop is off!

The secret behind hibernation is that before you turn off the laptop, everything you're doing with the computer is saved. (The contents of memory are saved to the hard disk.) When the computer is turned on again, it recovers from hibernating by reloading all the saved information and restoring your laptop to exactly the same condition it was in before it was hibernated.

Briefly, hibernation works like this:

1. You activate the hibernation feature.

Hibernation is activated differently depending on how it's set up.

2. The laptop hums as everything in memory is saved to disk.

3. The laptop turns itself off.

It's really and truly off: The battery isn't being used, and it's safe to store the laptop or put it away until you need to use it again.

To recover from Hibernation mode, just turn the laptop on. In some cases, the laptop may recover from hibernation when you press a key or touch the mouse pad. hibernated state for as long as you want.

Hibernation mode requires hard drive space. So you should be aware that when hard drive space runs low, it's possible that Hibernation mode won't work.

In Windows XP, you have to activate Hibernation mode before you can use it. Follow these steps to activate Hibernation:

1. Click the Start button.

2. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.

3. Open the Power Options icon in the Control Panel.

4. In the Power Options Properties dialog box, look for and click on the Hibernation tab.

If you don't see a Hibernation tab, there's your answer: The laptop isn't capable of hibernating. Oh, well.

You might want to check the laptop's Setup program to see whether you can activate Hibernation there.

5. Select the Enable Hibernation option by clicking the check box to place a check mark in the box.

6. Review other options, if they're available.

7. Click OK to confirm the changes and close the Power Options Properties dialog box.

Optionally, close the Control Panel window, as well.

Some laptops may require you to restart Windows for this change to take effect.

WONT START UP

Check there is no bootable CD/DVD in the drive, if not then there is probably an issue with the laptop's hard disk that needs to be replaced by a technician. You could try booting into Safe Mode to see does that work by pressing F8 just before the Windows logo appears but it sounds like a dying or dead hard disk.
