The receiver shuts down when zone 2 is turned on

Disconnect the speakers on Zone 2 and try to turn on the receiver again. If the receiver works, there is a shorted speaker wire, pinched wire, or a blown speaker on zone 2. Good Luck

Yamaha RX-V657

This will almost certainly be a problem with the power supply, a faulty part. Unless you have experience of repairs to power supplies, due to the high voltages, I suggest you take it to your local authorised Yamaha Repair Centre.

My problem is conect bose 901v to reciver yahama rx-v657

If you cruise around fixya solutions you will find a number of MY postings for many different receivers.

The difficulty you face is that the RX-V657 lacks the necessary Pre-Outs to feed the Bose 901 Active Equalizer which would feed the necessary dedicated amplifier you will need to route Front Channel programming to the 901's and ONLY the 901's without affecting anything else that flows through the RX.

I have 901's in my multichannel rig alongside 301's and a subwoofer. I know what I'm talking about.

Yamaha RXV657 wont turn on at all. Fuse OK. Relay on "mains in" PCB not firing up. James.

check the voltage on the output transistors.
the center pins should be at +_ 60vdc.
the first pin on the left should be a half volt or so for the npn transistor and -.55 or minus a half volt for the pnp transistor.
any offset voltage will kick in the protection mode.

Volume control

Do you have the volume at -5dB when listening to source 1? That would in most cases be far beyond the receivers capabilities when listening on an average loud recording from a standard source. I would guess that your source has a way to low signal.

However, i assume the answer to the question is this:
There is a way to trim the levels of each source (Input). It can be adjusted -6dB to +6dB.
Select the input you want to adjust. Hit Set Menu on the remote. Then Manual Setup -> Input Menu - > Volume Trim. Adjust up or down. In your case adjust your source 1 to + 6dB and all other inputs to -6dB.
