Make sure you CHANGE tracks as if you record over the same track it is destructive. It would be easy to forget to change to an unused track and overlay previous data resulting in loss of the original song.
I have a similar Yamaha that makes me re-record the 16 tracks of the song onto the stereo track (left and right) then save. See if under the record setting if it has an option to "record to stereo track" or something similar. Hope that helps.
You could record short "samples" to be used in building new voices, however, it does NOT appear that you can record a vocal song with the PSR9000. The Tyros II and III have the capability to record vocals but the PSR9000 and Tyros I do not..
When playing back an arrangement, you can re-sing the song and have the vocal harmonizer track the arrangement.
Whichever works best for you is best. You can always lay down a scratch track for each like this and then lay down another track to replace whatever you didn't like using the scratch track as a guide. Erase the scratch tracks that you don't need before you mix down. I hope this helps.
Sounds to me like you have the midi tracks outputting to the microsoft midi mapper or wavetable synth, which is built into the sound chip in your pc, and that this is conflicting with the mobilepre sound card - midi is just data, no audio, needs to drive some kind of synth. what you want to do is disable your internal sound card thru device manager, then just use the m-audio mobile pre as the input/output sound card in ASIO mode - you'll need to monitor via the headphone jack on the mobile pre or plug speakers into the line outs on the interface.
Then do tutorial 8 (in help files) on using soft synths - INSERT>SOFTSYNTHs creates a midi track and an audio track in a track folder.
