If your IP is set manually, it will not reset...if your IP is static, it will not reset every time you reboot.

Router has been set up but do not have a working internet connection

Disconnect the ISP modem power and cable / DSL connection. Wait a few minutes and reconnect. Then reset the modem by pushing in the reset button in the back. Now reconnect router. At this point you should have network.

In PC go to Start > Search (run in XP) and type cmd ENTER. In the command prompt type ipconfig /release ENTER. Then type ipconfig /renew ENTER. This just refreshes your IP. Test it.

Going inot the router configuration page and reserving your computer with a specific IP address would resolve this issue, If you have never gone into the router config page, it would be reccomended that you not do this, and have a computer savvy person with networking experiance do this for you.

another solution would be releasing and renewing your IP address in the command prompt on your computer

in command prompt, type : ipconfig /release ENTER then ipconfig /renew to renew your ip address, this can be done rather than resetting the router everytime

My computer is showing the conection but not letting me on the internet how can i fix it?it says conneted and says no internet access.

1) try turning off and restarting the modem and router.
2) if you are using a dsl connection check if the modem is in bridge mode with your isp.
if yes then
type click on start->run->cmd and press enter
in the black window type ipconfig
now note the default gateway and type the default gateway in the internet explorer Eg \\
check if the router is set to connection type as pppoe.
enter your usernaem and password and save the internet light will go on.

if the modem is not in bridge mode then try connecting you pc directly with the modem and check if the internet is working not not. if not contact your isp for settings.
if internet is working fine.
not connect your router to your modem and then your router to your computer.
type click on start->run->cmd and press enter
in the black window type ipconfig
now note the default gateway and type the default gateway in the internet explorer Eg \\
check if the router is set to optain ip automatiicaly and save changes.
if you still face any issue let me know.

Since a power blip sometime today we can connect to the internet if plugged directly into the modem (earthlink DSL) but not through the router. I can connect from the computer to the router (

With the router plugged into the modem
  • Unplug the power from the router and modem for about 15 seconds
  • Plug in the routers power wait about 30 seconds
  • Plug in the modems power wait about 30 seconds
Can you get on the internet now? If no please comment back with the ip address you are assigned
IP Address
Win XP (start >> run >> type cmd <enter>
Vista start type cmd <enter>
type ipconfig it should be identical to your router except for the last set of numbers (192.168.1.###) anything other than .1 for the ### is fine

If still unsuccessful in the command prompt type ipconfig /release
followed by ipconfig /renew

If you get a IP of 169.###.###.###
Let me know if this resolved issue or if not comment back and we can troubleshoot further
