How do I physically remove the hard drive from Gateway NMZ 500SE?

There are normally two screws on each side holding the hard drive. Make sure it is the hard drive and not the dvd drive, because the connections are the same. To be safe, unplug the tower and wait a few minutes.

You have to remove the CMOS battery located in your motherboard. Open your desktop casing and look for the battery

Where is the hard drive on a gateway all in one computer. i opened it up and dont recognize which part it is.

Hello.

Which model Gateway all in one do you have?

I have a Gateway ZX4800 and the hard drive is under the center rear cover. You have to remove the smaller panel that sticks out near the base of the PC (where the RAM is located) first then the center panel that is taller will pull out and reveals the hard drive cage. unbolt the hard drive cage, remove the SATA and power cables and you can then replace the hard drive.

On other All In One PC's (like the HP TouchSmart series) there is a rear cover that is under the desktop stand that can be removed and the hard drive is in a metal rectangle cage on the left side.

So, in almost all AIO systems, the hard drive is accessible by removing one or two panels off the back of the unit. RAM for these units will also be visible too.

When i try to power it up it just makes a clicking sound

Open the side of the case and locate your hard drive. Pull the red-yellow-black power cable from the hard drive and see if you still hear the clicking noise when you start the machine up. If you don't, i believe your hard drive is toasted.

Can the 310S PC Desktop Use HDDs running at 7200 RPM?

If there are unused connectors on the hard drive ribbon cables, and unused molex power plugs, then yes. Be sure to securely mount the drives in the case. Also check the jumper settings for all drives.
