How to remove hard drive from sony vaio pcg-2c1l

As you install new programs, rip music files from CDs or download data from the Internet, the hard drive on your Sony Vaio PCG laptop will eventually fill up and run out of room. You can replace the hard drive with a new one that has a larger capacity.

Power off the Sony Vaio PCG laptop, disconnect the power cord and then close the lid. Flip the computer over so that the bottom is facing up toward you. Press down on the raised latch that holds the battery into place and then pull the battery out of the laptop. Locate the five screws arranged in a square pattern on the right side of the laptop case. Take a screwdriver and remove all of the screws. Slide your fingernail or the tip of the screwdriver underneath the seam of the square plastic cover and lift it up. Grab the cover and remove it. Pull out the two screws that hold the hard drive onto the motherboard. Grab both ends of the hard drive and carefully pull it directly upward for about an inch so that you can see the cable connected to the motherboard. Disconnect the cable and then pull the hard drive the rest of the way out. Take out the four mounting screws that are located on both side edges of the hard drive. Take the replacement hard drive and install the mounting screws into its left and right sides. Plug the cable that runs from the motherboard into the corresponding port on the replacement hard drive. Check the direction of the new hard drive and lay it into the open slot in the same direction as the old hard drive. Use the two screws you pulled out earlier to hold it in place. Slide the cover piece back on and replace the five screws. Push the battery back into the laptop until the latch snaps into place. Hope this helps.

Replacing hard drive

Well first of all does it have a Hard Drive or what they call the Solid State Drive (SSD) which looks like a wireless card or some type of circuit board?

Next thing is where is the drive located, no matter which type, where is it? On most systems the drive is on the bottom of the laptop, so all you have to do is remove the screws from the cover that houses the drive. Normally the cover will have the icon of 3 circular discs on it.

Sometimes the drive, no matter which type, will be located under the plamrest or keyboard, when means you have to take the unit apart to get to it.

OK, you're in luck.. I checked your manual and it says you have a 60GB SATA Hard Drive, but it did not say where it was located.

Anyone know how to get to the hard drive in an old Sony PCG-F309?

LOL, the hard drive is probably located under the Keyboard or the palmrest. Sony was known for putting it under the keyboard or palmrest on older models.

That would sound to me like the inverter is bad, and needs to be replaced. You might check to make sure you plugged it in.

Where is the hard drive located in sony vaio vgn-nr430e/s

You have to remove the base part of the laptop by removing all the screws including the little ones under the cd when the dvdrw is removed. and the ones under battery and there is one under the ram cover then the base comes off easily. just then remove the caddy locking screws one at the front and one and back
bingo bongo.

Replacing Hard Drive in a Sony VAIO SZ330P/B

Turn your Vaio upside down and look for an easy access panel or release lever to remove the hard drive carriage. You will probably need a small Philip's screw driver to remove the carriage, but I don't think you need to remove the keyboard.

Removing the hard drive to a Sony VAIO VGN-S660PNotebook?

On this line of Sony models replacing the hard drive is a pain because the computer must be taken completely apart to get to the hard drive. It is located under the palm rest. I looked up the Sony manual for this model and it does not show how to replace the hard drive -- meaning it should only be done by a trained tech.

You'll have to remove all the screws from the bottom and underneath the keyboard. Carefully detach the keyboard and set it aside. Once all the screws are remove from the laptop you should be able to separate the top of the casing from the bottom, this usually requires a small amount of force but too much force will crack the plastic! Underneath you will find the hard drive cage.

Also, some laptop vendors like to pull the 'hidden screw' trick! There may be a screw underneath the CD-rom drive so that may have to be removed or under some of the rubber feat on the laptop.

I couldn't find a photos or manuals that show how to do this, but these guys say they have a manual for a small fee. http://www.9manuals.com/Vaio2.htm

They want $5.99 for the manual but that is much cheaper than paying a technician to do it for you.

Good luck and be careful!
