I love tomatoes and I can eat them all day! Is it dangerous to eat a large amount of tomatoes?

Eating too many tomatoes can give you heartburn because tomatoes are highly acidic food.

Several things you can try but if your boys have IBD, they probably shouldn't eat tomatoes. As you probably know, tomatoes are acidic, The sauce tastes sweeter and less acidic the longer you cook it so if you do have time to leave it for a few hours to gradually cook you should have a sauce that is much less acidic. You can also try adding a little sugar but we get so much sugar in our diets now, I hate adding more. My mother used to cook it with a pealed potato or carrots. You can also caramelize onions and place them in. If all else fails, ad a very small amount of baking soda but only a small amount as it will change the taste. Also remove any "foam" that raises to the top.

The hardest part of healthy eating is beating cravings for those foods we love.

For many people, Pizza is a big one.

So here is a way to satisfy that craving, without ruining your diet. Be aware that this isn’t something you should eat frequently, it’s just a more healthy way to satisfy that craving.

Just a side note: I am a firm believer that cheese is not bad for you. Studies consistently show that a SMALL AMOUNT of saturated fat can actually help you in your diet. Of course it shouldn’t be a regular part of your diet, but doesn’t hurt once in a while. For those really concerned about it, use low fat cheese. If the alternative is going out and getting a pizza, this is much better anyway!

This is a very simple recipe. Here’s what you’ll need:

100% Whole Grain bagels
Tomato Sauce
Cheese (low fat or full)
Lean meat (optional)

Step 1: Preheat oven to 425 F

Step 2: On a pan, place as many bagel halves as you wish. Make sure they are made with 100% whole grain.

Step 3: Spread plain tomato sauce onto each bagel.

Step 4: Either grate cheese onto the bagels or cut thin slices and place them on. You can mix it up with different cheeses like cheddar, mozzarella or marble. If you are really concerned about the fat in the cheese, use the low fat kind.

Step 5: Optionally add lean meat such as chicken, lean ham, or extra lean ground beef to it.


Step 6: Bake until the cheese has melted. Remove and let cool for a few minutes.

Step 7: Enjoy!

I just noticed a (I think) Tomato worm on my plants but dont know what they look like so its a guess. How do I get rid of them?


I use seven dust on my Tomato vines when I see worms, cut worms or horn worms. Seven dust will take care of them. Wash Tomato's well before eating.
