Hard drive for installing the Windows XP is default formated to be NTFS. however, you can forced it to format FAT32. then why? FAT32 cost more hard drive real estate, with less data storage.
as far as the lost programs, that yo have to ask Gateway, majority of the system restore disk restore the original OS, plus what ever the manufacture want you to have. the preloaded aplciaton software are trail, if you purchased the application during that time, you should have the serial number for that software. You need to contact the software verdor and give them the serial number they assign you at the time of purchase. otherwise, you have to purchase the software.
