SOURCE: lost my programs

Hard drive for installing the Windows XP is default formated to be NTFS. however, you can forced it to format FAT32. then why? FAT32 cost more hard drive real estate, with less data storage.
as far as the lost programs, that yo have to ask Gateway, majority of the system restore disk restore the original OS, plus what ever the manufacture want you to have. the preloaded aplciaton software are trail, if you purchased the application during that time, you should have the serial number for that software. You need to contact the software verdor and give them the serial number they assign you at the time of purchase. otherwise, you have to purchase the software.

I formatted my acer4930. But when i trying to install windows7 no hard disk drives is found. Please tell me how to solve this problem.

Hi,

The problem is you have lost the drivers for the hard drives, you need to put the reboot disk in and run it so that all the drivers can be put back into the system.

But that is the reason your hard drives won't work there are no drivers/programs for them to work.

Hope this helped.

Thanks

Jason

You could have a look in My Computer to see if the drive is accessible there.

1.) If it is then I suggest you make sure you have copied the following files from the drive and saved them on PC (to be able to reinstall Maxtor Manager if you ever want also to format the drive) :-

chas6_4.jpg

- then uninstall and reinstall Maxtor Manager
(for some reason this program tends to become corrupt).

2.) If this none of this helps, you could download Seatools diagnostic and repair program from Seagate to see if the drive is ok or to try to repair it.

What will happen if I re-install the OS of my laptop?

all the files, programs saved on the same drive/partition will be lost. Make sure to save important data before you do a reinstall. After reinstalling the operating system, you can reinstall the drivers for your components, then reinstall the programs/applications you need.

My machine died so I purchased a replacement and swapped in my old harddrive. All appears ok... I can see all the files on the new "F" drive. I can go to doc setting see my desktop but question is how do I...

You Cannot, ALL programs MUST be installed to the drive thats the working one, you cannot ADD a drive and use the software, as the Windows install, is NOT on that drive, it is on the New drive. so the programs, cannot work, as there details are NOT in the existing registry. You MUST reinstall every program you wish to use to the C: drive into the Programs directory. That will "Register" them with Windows.

Either do a system restore.
Otherwise boot pc with windows disk and reinstall. You can buy another program called system recovery that will erase everything on the hard -drive back to brand new stage and then reinstall windows.

Hi there.
When you bought the program it should have come as a disk, just find the install disk, pop it into the CD/DVD drive and execute the program and it will reinstall.

if you reformatted the drive the data was on (as well as where the backup was (don't backup data from one hard drive to the SAME hard drive)), then all hope isn't lost.  go to download.com and look for file restoring programs.  a number of them are free and can recover data on hard drives as long as their sectors haven't been rewritten.
