How can I attach a ball to a rope to make a tetherball game?

You can buy a tetherball ready made - however if money is tight you could always make your own by attaching a rope to a volleyball, you can make a hole in the sponge ball and pass the rope through it and tie a huge knot at the bottom.

I want to make a tetherball pole stay in the ground without falling over, how can I do this?

You should dig a hole that is about 2 feet deep, you should get a pole which is 2 inches thick and 12 feet long. Place the pole into the hole so that 10 foot of it is sticking out of the ground. Fill the hole with cement and wait for it to dry. This should be enough to keep the pole in place when swinging the ball.

What is tetherball?

Tetherball is a fun sport where two contestants swing a volleyball that is attached to a pole with rope. The idea is that one contest will swing it clockwise and the other anticlockwise - a player wins when they manage to swing the ball so that it is wrapped around the pole and can't swing any further.

Problems about areas

Let x = the width of the women's court. Then 2x is the length of the women's court.
the area of the womens court is x times 2x = 2x^2

the length of the mens court is 4 ft longer than the women's or 2x + 4
The width of the men's court is 5 ft wider than the womwn's or x + 5

The are of the mens court is 650 square feet larger that the womens so we have to add 650 to the area of the womens court so the men's and women's will be equal

Now we have area of the women's court = area of the men's court

2x^2 + 650 = (x + 5) (2x + 4) = 2x^2 + 14x + 20

The x^2 cancel out and we are left with 14X + 20 + 650 solving for x we get x = 45

Plugging x back into the length and width equations we get the length is 94 and the width is 50

Hope this helped

Good luck Loringh
