Depending on the type of gun you own the sound can match that of a regular gun, the sound is a bit like a hammer hitting a hard surface.

With 90 # air and PC nails. When I pull the trigger nothing happens. No air noise, no nailing, no movement - just dead. It's been oiled every use.

Most likely stuck trigger valve. Easy to check. Remove nails, remove trigger to expose the firing pin of trigger valve. Connect air and very quickly depress the firing pin all the way in. If the gun fires , adjust the safety to depress the trigger valve completely. If the gun does not fire, replace firing valve, or remove and check /lube o-rings in valve. Good luck

When i put thew gun to wood there isnt a noise and wont fire a nail.when i lift off the fan comes on. what could the problem be.the gun is clean and all orings are in good condition.tried the piston on...

ok, start with checking gas delivery ,then with total clean. If still malfunction, check the setting of lower probe(part 66). I've owned my guns for 11 years and do all my own servicing. Most if not nearly all problems are caused by dirty components...cheers

Nailer makes a small clap noise and will not shot nails

When the driver or headvalve is stuck in place and the gun is fired, there will be a pop sound or the sound of air being released within the gun and at the trigger. Remove the nails and air supply insert metal rod into nose of gun forcing the driver against headvalve (a couple of firm taps will do). Retest gun. If no joy, remove the head being carefull with head gasket. The driver should be at the top positon (if driver drops to bottom of cylinder replace oring). Pull the driver and lube the piston oring seal. Headvalve should move in with thumb pressure, if stuck, remove and clean / lube orings. Replace parts as needed if scratched, cracked or generally worn. Use plenty of silicone paste lube on orings ( sold at Lowes in the plumbing department and swimming pool supply stores). Good luck

Hitachi framing nailer wont retract. The pin wont go back in. It just makes an air noise

One or more of the rubber o-rings inside the gun are worn or broken. Air is leaking out of where it needs to go to push the driver back up. This is a good gun and worth rebuilding. Unfortunately Hitachi doesn't make rebuild kits for their guns, you have to have a breakdown and order each part you need seperately. If you do this, replace all of the o-rings, if one went bad the others are not far behind. If you take it to a repair shop make sure they repalce all the o-rings.

Brad nailer not firing nail...can hear brief air noise upon pulling the trigger

Porter cable makes a number of brad nailers (18 gauge) that very quickly suffer from the problem that you are having. You did not mention the model number of your gun but if it is one of these, (bn125a, bn200a, ns100a) kit # 60061 will fix the problem. It costs between 25 and 30 dollars. Google that part number or order from Dewalt owns the porter cable brand. Before you order the kit, check that the driver blade is not bent and stuck. The driver should travel freely down the cylinder. When you install parts, use Danco silicone grease to lube (availabel at Lowes in the plumbing department) If your model # is different from those mentioned above, please email me and I will recommend a repair.
