Check the "keep alive" settings in your router, there is usually a choice between having it constantly "pinging" to keep the connection open, or letting it disconnect when it has been idle for awhile. Make sure it is set to "keep alive". The wording may be different but it will be something along these lines. Go in your browser to the wireless router's configuration page (i.e. http://192.168.1.1 ). Depending on what brand router you have this ip address will vary, consult your documentation for which number is used.

Diagnostic light keeps blinking

Check the LED lights that are blinking on the front of the DSL modem. Check the "Internet/Online" LED and make sure it is blinking green or a solid green. If this LED is not blinking, then the modem is not getting a phone signal, or the service is out. Remove the line and check it to make sure that you're getting a signal.
Check to see if filters are connected to the phone lines that are all around the house. These filters separate the phone line from the DSL line so that the lines do not crosswire and disturb the Internet connection or the phone connection. The DSL is usually shipped with a couple of phone filters. These phone filters can be purchased at many electronics stores or provided free from your Internet Service Provider.Check to see if the modem is connected to a wireless router. If the modem is connected to the router, try disconnecting the router and connect the modem straight to a computer. If the modem is also a multi-port wireless router, then connect the computer to a different port on that same router.Reset the router if the previous steps do not resolve the problem. Follow the initial set up instructions given to you when you first installed the router. Perform any firmware updates that might be needed once online, and use the discs that came with the modem.

Netgear WNDR4500 power light flashes, no internet access

most routers have a reset button on the side that you can access with a pin or small wire ,to reset you press in on the small button,if not you can always unplug your router and close down your computer then replug the router and restart the computer. normally this will solve the problem as the settings for the router are in the computer.

1. Unplug the ether net cord from the wall and wait 1 minute replug the Ethernet cord.
Try you connection again if no connection then go to the command line at the DOS prompt and type "ipconfig /all to see the devices that are connected.
If you see anything like "media disconnect" then you have an issue with your ISP ( internet Service Provider).

a red led usually indicates an error or defect. if removing the power for several minutes (or hours like you did) does not reset the error, then i'm afraid that you will have to replace the device completely. however, the root cause may still be found before the router. have you tried unplugging and replugging the modem as well?

I did have issues with linksys router where i had to power cycle it all the time. Sometimes doing reset will take care of it for a while but eventually router will need to be replaced. To do reset just hold in reset button on back of router for 30 seconds and wait for all the lights to come back on. It is a good practice to restart the PC after reset. Reset will erase any settings that were changed in router if any; ie.. wireless network name and security key. Also try to change the port where your PC is plugged in on back of router and try swapping cables before replacing router. Once this is done and still issue the the router needs to be replaced. Blinking just means some kinda activity is happening on router (exchange of pockets). It is normal for them to blink and sometimes not.

USING LINKYS ROUTER/INTERNET NOT FOUND

Can you be a little more specific. What do you mean by "INTERNET PLUG IN"? Are you referring to the cable connecting your laptop to the router? The router to the modem? Or the modem to the internet (cable or DSL)?

What operating system?
